ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Reports To: Assistant Director of Marketing Supervises: Student Workers
Summary of Position: The Marketing Manager is a highly skilled generalist who is responsible for a broad range of activities that support the Mills College brand, help recruit prospective students, and enhance the image of the College. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Marketing, the Marketing Manager implements and monitors marketing programs across all media; manages and crafts content for Mills' online and print presence in college guidebooks and websites; serves as the departmental editor/proofreader and expert on the Chicago Manual of Style; coordinates and manages photo and video shoots; oversees the Mills digital asset library, photo requests, logo usage, and stationery system; and manages the production of printed recruitment materials and ads. The Marketing Manager also collaborates on any other programs that help promote a positive image of the College, including social media, special events, and signage.
Essential Job Functions:
Edit and proofread all marketing materials and adhere to brand and editing style guidelines.
Oversee the annual schedule of college guidebooks and website submissions including updating statistics, narrative copy, imagery, and any other assets required to promote Mills.
Create project timelines and manage deadlines.
Coordinate production of marketing collateral materials.
Write/edit website content, guidebook content, advertising, and any other marketing efforts that help recruit students to Mills College.
Support the Mills website graphically through image selection, cropping, and photo optimization and through insertion of search engine keywords and meta data.
Monitor digital advertising campaigns in support of student recruitment efforts, including the evaluation of results in proprietary systems and Google Analytics and identify enhancements for future campaigns.
Hire photographers/videographers, set up photo/video shoots, and tag/keyword and manage all digital creative assets in WebDam.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage multiple projects independently and simultaneously under deadline pressure with a high level of attention to detail.
Manage the Mills corporate identity system and enforce adherence to brand and logo guidelines.
Oversee the inventory of admissions materials and the College's stationery system.
Interact effectively with all levels of a multicultural organization, demonstrating a strong team orientation, sophisticated interpersonal skills, and excellent follow through.
Keep abreast of changing technology as it impacts marketing with the ability to recognize and adopt new media to the benefit of the College.
Serve on College-wide events committees to represent the Marketing Department.
Establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships within a diverse and multicultural environment.
Establish and maintain an effective customer service orientation towards all persons contacted during the course of job performance.
Perform administrative tasks as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of:
Consumer marketing strategies and tactics across traditional and new media channels.
Creative development and production processes for print collateral, digital marketing, advertising, web, photography, and videography.
Digital advertising tools and their measurement in Google Analytics.
Web content best practices.
Creative vendor management including photographers and videographers.
Editorial style guides; Chicago Manual of Style strongly preferred
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Adobe Creative Suite
Content management systems; OmniUpdate a plus.
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Oversee the creative execution of materials while maintaining marketing strategy, creative integrity, and program effectiveness.
Stay abreast of the changes in marketing channels as communications technologies evolve and apply them to Mills College as appropriate.
Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing programs and continuously improve the College's efforts.
Multi task on multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
Develop strong working relationships with internal clients and educate them on effective marketing solutions, taking a proactive leadership role on behalf of the Marketing Department.
Interact appropriately with different levels of internal clients providing consistent and regular project updates to the Associate Director of Marketing and internal clients, as appropriate.
Education and Training:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or English
Minimum of 5 years experience in marketing communications, preferably in a college or marketing communications agency or nonprofit environment.
Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands:
Work primarily involves sitting for long hours and using office equipment. The incumbent will often spend long hours on the computer which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
Work location can vary and occasionally requires the need for quick mobility across campus several times a day in combination with stationary desk work.
There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress.

This is a full-time, exempt position with an FTE of 1.0. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with college-matching after 6 month qualifying period, 22 days of vacation per year, 12 sick days and 17 paid holidays (subject to annual review). Staff members also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is also available after an introductory period. Voluntary benefits include: pet insurance, long-term care insurance, legal-assistance insurance, cellular provider discounts and computer hardware discounts.
