The Office of the Vice Provost of Advances for Learning (VPAL) is a University-wide strategic initiative, that creates and catalyzes deeply engaging and scalable learning experiences that make a difference at Harvard and beyond. VPAL works with faculty to build and create online courses for both public and residential audiences. VPAL produces high-quality courses that showcase the depth and breadth of Harvard to serious learners everywhere. The VPAL team supports MOOCs and other innovative pedagogies in line with strategic goals to advance the understanding of how students learn, expand access to high-quality education worldwide, and improve teaching and learning—on campus, online and beyond.
Reporting to the Managing Director of the Office of the Vice Provost for Advances in Learning the Senior Manager leads digital communications and marketing efforts for VPAL free and paid courses, and Harvard University's centralized catalog of online courses. The Senior Manager will raise the visibility of online courses and achieve enrollment targets by developing and executing on strategies that integrate best practices in email marketing, user experience, search engine optimization, analytics tracking and reporting, copywriting for the web, social media marketing, and paid ads for search and social media. Collaborating with course developers and product managers, marketing staff at HBS Online, communications staff across the University, and outside agencies, this role builds and executes strategies to connect educational content from Harvard University to relevant audiences around the world and drive enrollment for Harvard University online courses.
Course branding and promotion
Website strategy, including ongoing SEO- and UX-focused design and development
Email marketing strategy and execution
Social media and video marketing
Lead generation and management of end-to-end customer acquisition funnel
Support paid marketing efforts
Analytics implementation and dashboard building
Competitive landscape research and market research based on search volume to assist product managers
Support the broader, University-wide effort to promote non-degree programs
During the current period of Covid-19 related restrictions, this position may start as a remote position, with transition to onsite in Cambridge when the office reopens.

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field
Minimum of 7 years of progressive digital marketing and communications experience
Strong project management skills in a deadline-driven environment with competing priorities.
Knowledge and familiarity with all forms of existing and emerging advertising and communications opportunities across web, email, and social media platforms (including analytics-driven content development, maintenance, and management).
Experience using marketing automation software to nurture prospects through the marketing funnel from initial interest to enrollment.
Experience using Drupal, OpenScholar, Sharepoint or similar web content management systems to create, edit and optimize web marketing and product content
Outstanding writing skills, including the ability to communicate about a variety of subjects to diverse audiences on multiple platforms, including search-optimized titles and copy for course descriptions.
Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with and influence diverse, high-level stakeholders.
Experience in higher education a plus.
Impeccable attention to detail.
Creativity in finding new and innovative ways to think about marketing and communications for different constituents.
Ability to work effectively in an open office environment.
