The Academy of Mount St. Ursula, New York State's oldest continuously operating all girls’ Catholic high school, is conducted in the Ursuline tradition and located in the Bronx. AMSU’s unique Catholic educational mission is to serve young women of diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds in a college preparatory secondary school rooted in the Ursuline tradition of fostering leadership and service. AMSU seeks a Director of Alumnae Relations, Development and External Affairs / Institutional Advancement with 3-5 years of experience. The Director is involved in the ongoing efforts to communicate the philosophy, mission, values, goals, and achievements of the Academy of Mount St. Ursula to its various constituencies and to actively solicit additional financial support for the institution. The Director reports directly to the Principal, supervises several staff members, and collaborates with the broader school’s administrative team, the Board of Trustees, and other members of the staff and faculty to determine short and long-term development needs, to promote the school’s image, and to cultivate human and financial resources. The position can be tailored based on a successful applicant’s strengths and ability to work collaboratively with an experienced development team. Primary Responsibilities - Advises and assists the Principal, the Board of Trustees, and various support organizations in establishing and maintaining an ongoing program of institutional advancement to market the school for image, enrollment, and financial resources.
- Designs, plans, and coordinates the annual giving program, including strategies for prospect solicitation and periodic capital fundraising campaigns.
- Oversees and coordinates the major gifts program, endowment giving, and deferred giving programs and assists the Principal, Board of Trustees, and others in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gifts.
- Fundraises for needs of school-physical facilities, operating costs, supplies and student financial aid and scholarships.
- Coordinates and plans special fundraising events such as annual reunions, and events for alumnae and benefactors, such as the Hall of Fame Gala.
- Evaluates and analyzes the annual fundraising program, its impact and results and adjusts strategies as necessary.
- Coordinates a program of written and personal communications with various constituencies, cultivates media contacts, produces press releases and advertisements, produces marketing brochures, direct mail solicitations, newsletters, annual reports, acknowledgment of gifts, and other communications as appropriate. This process is done collaboratively with others in development office.
- Supervises staff managing social media responsibilities and donor communications.
- Assures that all printed materials are consistent in content and message and reflect the Catholic mission and Ursuline tradition of the school.
- Evaluates all school communications materials and marketing efforts and adjusts strategies as necessary.
- Prepares and monitors the development budget income and expenditures with the Principal and Finance Director.
- Prepares and disseminates an annual report in consultation with the Principal and Finance Director.
- Assists grant writer with researching and submitting applications to prospective foundations and corporations.
- Manages and continuously improve Raiser's Edge, the computerized data system of donor records, files, and other related information.
- Recruits, recommends, and supervises development department personnel in consultation with the Principal.
- Moderates school’s Marketing Club.
- Works with vendors to purchase school merchandise for alumnae and families.
- Works closely with Board of Trustees and various committees.
- Attends school events as needed (evening and weekends at times).
- Remains aware of school accomplishments and challenges.
- Works cooperatively with faculty and staff.
