DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS , MIT Press (MITP) , to work with the director and publisher on developing and promoting MITP's mission and vision through a robust marketing and communications strategy for MITP and its books, journals, and digital programs. Will shape, influence, and ensure the visibility of the MITP brand, its distinctive voice, and its innovation-focused approach and mindset. Responsibilities include synthesizing marketing strategy across efforts guided by senior marketing staff on all book types, journals, e-products, and open access and publishing services programs; preparing annual marketing budgets and semiannual reforecasts; staying current on developments in the market; helping develop and ensure that department- and team-level OKRs are achievable; serving on the MITP senior management cabinet and liaising with department-level directors; collaborating on oversight of all external communication efforts, ensuring the consistency of messages across platforms and adherence to brand standards; helping maintain robust communication with authors; working with publicity to develop and maintain media contacts in key disciplines/areas and maintaining relationships with key editors and producers; developing a strategic plan for ongoing marketing; seeking opportunities to develop innovative programs, services, and brand extensions; overseeing marketing and communications staff; and performing other duties as requested.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : bachelor's degree in a related field; seven years' communications and trade marketing experience; strong personnel management, strategic thinking, organizational, and oral and written communication skills; experience motivating and leading teams in a highly collaborative environment; book marketing, communications, digital, and social media marketing experience; ability to synthesize complex information and adjust to a fast-changing publishing landscape; and a track record of successful business planning. Position is ideally based in MITP's Cambridge offices but remote work may be negotiable.
