Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Marketing and Alumni Relations Coordinator in our Marketing department reporting directly to the Director of Alumni Relations.

The position can reside in the New York, Philadelphia or Washington, DC office and will be responsible for assisting the Director of Alumni Relations through proactive and responsive coordination and administration of the firm’s alumni program. We are looking for a forward-thinking, proactive, analytical and confident individual with impeccable writing and research skills, business acumen, acute attention to detail, who thrives in a fast paced, strong team-oriented environment, and is passionate about marketing and business development. The Alumni Relations Coordinator will have an opportunity to interact with members of the firm around the globe and have exposure to legal marketing and business development work.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Assist with the development and execution of Alumni Relations strategies, plans, initiatives and projects, including identifying and evaluating connections and targets for new business development opportunities.

Marketing and Editorial Coordination

  • Coordinate and execute the preparation of broad range of alumni relations materials and presentations across multiple internally and externally-facing mediums, including newsletters, websites, social media, special reports, engagement plans and other communications as needed
  • Coordinate content management of the Alumni Relations website, including content development, content posting, and newsletter production
  • Write original content, including alumni news summaries, alumni features and marketing communications for alumni outreach (event invitations, contests, etc.)
  •  Coordinate technology maintenance and enhancements to systems used in Alumni Relations program with IT and external vendors
  • Familiarity with InterAction, Vuture and Intraworlds/Peoplepath a plus

Data Management and Business Development Coordination

  • Regularly review, research, update, import, export and maintain alumni information in firm marketing and alumni databases and help improve the data integrity of alumni records
  • Conduct and coordinate research for practices, offices, and other marketing staff on information about the alumni population
  • Analyze and distill information to provide actionable intelligence from internal and external resources for the firm’s attorneys, marketing/business development teams, and additional business services teams.
  • Track metrics; prepare reports and updates as needed

 Administrative Assistance

  • Perform various administrative duties, including data entry, scheduling, mailings, etc. for Alumni Relations team
  • Coordinate and assist with alumni events as needed
  • Assist with execution of all components of alumni engagement plans and initiatives

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MA in journalism or business or JD preferred
  • At least 2 years of alumni relations, marketing, journalism or related experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services organization
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong writing and editing skills, familiarity with AP style guidelines, adherence to firm style guide and templates, and ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels within and outside of the firm
  • Excellent at manipulating and analyzing data
  • Social Media savvy
  • Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are essential; experience with InterAction or other CRMs, Access, marketing databases, and Content Management Systems preferred
  • Ability to work independently, as a member of teams, and with colleagues located in different offices
  • Confident and approachable manner when communicating with senior levels at the firm
