Founded in 1918, Church Farm School is an all boys Episcopal school providing uncommon and substantial financial support for its educational program to a promising and exceptionally diverse group of deserving young men. The Director of Athletics is a full-time position responsible to the Head of School. The Director is expected to play a significant role in the institutional leadership and advancement of a residential school as member of the Administrative Team. The Director of Athletics oversees and is responsible for implementing the philosophical direction, administration, management, evaluation and delivery of all athletic programs while also being responsible for the assessment, care and operation of athletic facilities.
CFS seeks a proven, experienced, outgoing, energetic and athletically minded individual who is passionate about young people, desires to work closely with faculty and coaches in developing their mentoring skills and engagement in the athletic environment and promotes school values in athletics as well as across all areas of school life. Candidates should speak to their ability to work and collaborate with institutional leadership in pursuit of the CFS mission; inspire and lead high school students and adults; create a positive, healthy atmosphere for athletes, coaches and spectators, especially visitors to CFS; represent a mature and respected presence in and to the greater community; create a positive culture of engagement and assessment; think and operate strategically with data-driven results in support of accountability; and communicate effectively in addressing groups small or large as well as in writing.
A working knowledge of several sports either as player or coach is strongly preferred. CFS is a member of the Bicentennial Athletic League (BAL) which is part of the PIAA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Member of the CFS Administrative Team with regular weekly and weekend duties particular to presence and leadership responsibility in a residential school environment.
Engage and inspire the health and wellness of students through physical activity and a robust, forward thinking and inclusive athletic program.
Promote the health and safety of student athletes through a program dedicated to wellness, fair and spirited competition (interscholastic and intramural), teamwork and positive self-care.
Articulate, promote and manage a required program of athletics and afternoon clubs for student participation.
Hire, lead, evaluate, retain and assign all athletic coaches, many of whom also teach, advise and care for students in the dormitories. Work closely with the Director of Academics and Director of Student Life to achieve this goal.
Plan or help coordinate special school events such as Parents’ Weekend, Field Day, Alumni Events, etc.
Manage the athletic trainer and coordinate all health and safety protocols with CFS Head Nurse.
Represent CFS in league (currently Bicentennial Athletic League) and association (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) business, and oversee departmental compliance with all league and association rules and regulations.
Oversee the annual and daily athletic program schedule, including all practices, contests, and tournaments. Host invitational tournaments as well as BAL and PIAA postseason events.
Oversee all athletic facilities and serve as operational liaison to rental groups. Oversee all equipment and uniform inventory.
Utilize school software (Boardingware) to monitor student presence in athletic activities both on and off campus.
Strong leadership skills to effectively administer and mentor the athletic office and also support leadership across all levels of school operations.
Proactive and collaborative communication with administrative colleagues charged with looking after institutional mission, strategic direction and daily operations.
Capacity and experience managing resources, inventories and a budget.
Demonstrated ability to lead pre-adolescent and adolescent boys.
Proven effectiveness in leading and inspiring a diverse student body and faculty/staff.
Demonstrated understanding of organizational cultural competence with the understanding and ability to lead DEI practices.
Strong organizational ability and strategic thinking with proven ability to create, develop and sustain a comprehensive program.
An independent thinker and self-starter who can effectively demonstrate the importance of team through cooperation, collaboration, adaptability and effective communication.
Facility with digital marketing and online communication methods.
Familiarity with related software, database management and oversight.
