The Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science (MS), and doctoral (PhD) programs in the Department of Health Services are seeking a Temporary Marketing and Student Recruitment Specialist to fulfill duties and responsibilities of an employee on leave. The position is 75%-100% FTE, depending on the successful candidate’s availability and preference.
This position will implement the marketing plans for student recruitment and marketing; communicate with prospective applicants; update existing marketing materials and communications; organize special events for individual programs and/or the department in support of recruitment and alumni relations; and represent the program at recruitment events. This position reports to the Associate Director of Academic Program Operations.
Housed in the UW School of Public Health, the Department of Health Services is a dynamic academic and research department with the mission of working with partners in public health and health care to prepare leaders, design solutions, and conduct innovative research that is translated into practice and policy. The Department is steadfast in its efforts to improve and promote the health of all populations, and staff contribute daily and directly to the work of faculty, students, researchers and other staff, providing support and expertise to the Department's mission.
Duties & Responsibilities: Recruitment – 50%
•Serve as first point of contact for prospective student inquiries, via phone and email replies •Conduct prospective student advising sessions, via phone, Zoom, and in-person (as safety allows) •Recruit students at fall conferences/events, online and locally in-person (as safety allows) •Co-coordinate and co-host cross-program recruitment events, such as the “Which Public Health Degree is Right for Me?” series •Host monthly webinars via Zoom •Send annual marketing emails to inquirers, following established calendar of communications, and email templates
Alumni Outreach – 30%
•Send annual alumni surveys •Collaborate with program staff to organize alumni events/dinners at conferences and/or while in travel status, as applicable •Collaborate with program staff to plan and support annual January events
Marketing – 10%
•Post regularly to our social media accounts •Update handouts/factsheets •Maintain website content thru regular updates in collaboration with colleagues •Liaise with UW Continuum College for ongoing initiatives (online ad campaigns, web content, etc.)
General Administration – 10%
•Enter prospective student and alumni data into an established Access database •Provide data reporting for Department and/or SPH needs, as requested
•Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, English, Education, or related field. •Three years of experience in student services for higher education, preferably including outreach and recruitment responsibilities •Experience supporting social media efforts •Experience with web-based conferencing/meeting technologies •Superior time management and organizational skills with the ability to juggle numerous long-term projects with emergent daily demands and excellent follow-through •Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills, with an ability to represent the UW with diverse stakeholders at all levels in a professional manner •Superior oral and written communication skills •Strong eye for detail and high standards of accuracy •Proficiency with the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)
•Knowledge of UW systems and commonly-used software (MyGrad, Access, Catalyst, Handshake, etc.) •Knowledge of public health graduate programs •Event planning experience •Strategic marketing background
Conditions of employment:
•This position may require local travel to recruitment events. This position must be able to work flexible hours as necessary due to work demands.
