University Advancement at Washington University is seeking a talented, forward-thinking individual to join its Advancement Communications team as the Director of Digital Strategy. With a deep and ever-evolving knowledge of digital best practices and analytics, this team member will lead and implement infrastructure and strategy for most of University Advancement's public-facing digital properties. They will grow collaborative relationships to coordinate and optimize digital content and user experience in service to University Advancement's engagement and fundraising goals.This is a new position for Advancement Communications and its parent department, University Advancement. We are transitioning many of our communications practices and strategies to a digital-first approach and need a visionary leader to help us be successful. The Director of Digital Strategy will have the opportunity to hire a staff member and work toward building a digital team in Advancement Communications.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the strategic development and implementation of policies and practices to improve overall efficiency, effectiveness, compliance, and management of University Advancement's digital marketing/communications properties, including websites, broadcast email communication, digital campaigns, social media channels, and mobile applications. Analyze and report on digital properties' performance and other factors.
Oversee management, governance, quality control, scheduling, and brand/style standards of Advancement's website, social media, and broadcast email efforts; make recommendations for additional staff and other resources.
Regularly work with leaders and partners to determine what public-facing digital communications services are needed by Advancement; research new ideas and technologies; define the details of the services and how they will be delivered; lead the design and implementation of those services.
Lead and manage Associate Director; provide guidance on professional development and career planning.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Three to five years of experience in managing professional staff.
Experience working with external software vendors, supervising RFP process, and managing relationships with external software vendors.
Prior experience in a higher education (especially advancement) technology environment.
Experience supervising technology integrations with CRM systems, such as SalesForce or Slate.
Experience using WordPress or similar.
Experience managing social media strategy for an organization or business.
Undergraduate degree plus a minimum of seven years of experience with interactive marketing, communications, and/or information technology, preferably in higher education or advancement.
Experience with digital analytics and SEO.
Experience in digital marketing/communications strategy, realization, best practices, and compliance.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to web standards, including web accessibility standards, and professionalism.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to prioritize and self-manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Demonstrated aptitude to quickly and effectively adapt to new circumstances and technologies.
Experience with use of business applications in web-based environments.
Ability to estimate resource needs.
Strong desire to develop new knowledge and professional skills on a continual basis.
Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with internal and external partners.
Ability to work with only general supervision.
Ability to think logically.

$68,200.00 - $116,600.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
