The Office of the Dean in the College of Arts and Science is seeking a web communications specialist to provide support for a one-year strategic website project. As the largest and most visible of Vanderbilt's 10 colleges and schools, the College of Arts and Science is seeking to improve its brand presence and cohesiveness by implementing a consistent template across its 45 academic department, program, and center websites. Reporting to the Digital Content Strategist, the web communications specialist will assist with this website project by working with departments to build out their websites, plan and edit their content, and input content into the new sites.

Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with pre-templated buildout of new websites in WordPress
Guide and collaborate with academic departments, programs, and centers to:
Understand their academic goals and brand
Audit and catalogue existing website content
Determine which content to keep and which to archive
Revise existing written content and/or write new content to ensure effectiveness in communicating the brand and message of A&S and the department, program, or center
Gather visual content as needed from existing resources and/or coordinate photo or video shoots to produce new content; resize/crop photos as needed
Identify and report on additional content needs
Educate department, program, and center website administrators on key concepts and best practices for creating and maintaining website content
Assist with migration/loading of content into new department websites
Provide timely updates on department and program progress and roadblocks
Troubleshoot issues and challenges that arise from the departments
Other duties related to the project as needed
Bachelor's degree in a related field (such as communications, web design, or marketing) and 1-2 years related professional experience; and/or
3-4 years related professional experience with a relevant associate's degree or professional certifications
Excellent organizational skills are necessary.
Excellent written and oral communications skills, including experience writing for the web is necessary.
Experience managing projects with partners/clients to deliver a quality project that meets stated goals and using project management software such as Trello or Asana is necessary.
Experience with maintaining websites in WordPress, including creating pages, menus, and other functional site elements is necessary.
Ability to collaborate effectively on technical projects with people who have limited technical experience, including explaining technical terms in an understandable way is necessary .
Ability to learn new technology platforms rapidly is necessary .
Understanding of key digital marketing concepts, including messaging, branding, and audience targeting is necessary
Self-motivated and self-directed work style is necessary .
Basic to moderate proficiency in Google Analytics is preferred.
Basic to moderate proficiency in HTML coding is preferred.
Graphic design skills, including ability to apply foundational design principles of color, emphasis, balance, proportion, contrast, and white space to web designs and layouts. Familiarity with graphic design platforms such as Adobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop are preferred, but not required.
