The Marketing and Outreach Coordinator (MOC) will directly report to the Director. As the MOC, this person is responsible for coordinating various events throughout the year, such as the Education Abroad fair, information sessions, and department outreach & events. In addition to this level of oversight, the MOC is responsible for creating and executing marketing strategies that directly relate to the office goals set forth by the Director. The position will support the integration of the Experiential Learning Framework and the College’s Immersed brand into IPE’s materials to ensure cohesion. The MOC supports the advising team with a keen eye on lead management and conversion of applicants to future stages.
Outreach Strategy (20%):
Develop marketing strategies to increase awareness and access to education abroad (EA) opportunities for engineering students
Responsible for brand management, implement advertising campaigns, organize market research studies and analyze their findings
Collaborate with the advising team to develop enhanced marketing/outreach/advising initiatives
Identify the value proposition of an IPE participant and adjust marketing strategies designed around these findings
Ensure marketing strategy and all marketing materials have a keen eye on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Marketing & Outreach Support (30%):
Produce in-house marketing materials (print and digital) to support marketing and outreach needs of the office
Create new swag and manage supply of promotional giveaways
Manage IPE’s overall social media presence. Create event pages for each event, create and maintain group pages, keep up to date with comments and messages from students and others
Create content to promote upcoming events, programs, info sessions, application deadlines, student blogs and pictures, education abroad relevant information and innovation, student successes, etc. (work with Advisors, students, & Directors as needed) contribute to development as usage evolves
Advising & Lead Management (25%):
Provide support to the advising team in lead management by following up with students who have shown an interest in going abroad
Work with the advising team to create, maintain and update application materials (education abroad forms, brochures, M-Compass templates, annual reports, surveys, website) for adherence to brand
Collaborate with the IPE advising team to develop and implement enhanced strategies designed to increase the number of interactions with students
Attend campus events and share information with prospective students about IPE and experiential learning
Present information about IPE and programs to a variety of audiences in a variety of means
Creatively and effectively tell the story of engineering students abroad so that it inspires others
Event Coordination (10%):
Coordinate event planning such as finalizing marketing materials, arranging the logistics, working with vendors
Assist the team in planning program orientations and department outreach events throughout the academic year
Assist the leadership team in planning team retreats
Plan logistics and schedules for visitors to IPE
Manage the office events calendar; create events pages in social media and other places to publicize events
Manage the IPE Annual Photo Contest; coordinate with other EA offices on Campus for Photo Showcase event
Administrative Support (10%):
Manage office website updates & development needs
Manage the student interest form and IPE newsletter requests
Provide support to further enhance the student experience with the office and its programs
In collaboration with the leadership team create the public facing annual reports
Other responsibilities as assigned
Supervisory Support (5%):
Co-manage the Engineers Abroad Returnee Network (EARN) who are in place to provide additional support and outreach at all events.
Oversee marketing projects by student peer advisors and interns
This position has the following goals and outcomes:
Increase total leads and applications into the system annually
Improve lead response time term over term.
Increase awareness of the office program portfolio through the following metrics:
Improve brand recognition and integration with the college
Bachelor's degree. One or more years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area creating and managing marketing and communication efforts within an organization. Demonstrated experience using a variety of social media platforms for business purposes. Demonstrated experience creating, designing, and editing print and digital work and publications. Experience developing or overseeing marketing plans for a department or business. Superior written, organizational, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills to communicate complex subjects to groups with various levels of knowledge and management levels. Creative ability to tell a story through the use of electronic and print media. Ability to creatively use technology to achieve departmental objectives. Ability to collaborate effectively and enthusiastically in a team. Some evening and weekend hours with occasional travel.
Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field with three or more years professional experience. Experience studying abroad or working internationally. Experience with photography, videotaping, and/or video editing. Web content management skills, including basic web editing and design. Experience advising students in a higher education setting. Ability to multi-task and manage complex projects in a deadline-driven environment. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision. Experience with event planning and execution. Knowledge of University of Michigan policies and procedures.
