The duties and responsibilities of the Director of Marketing and Communications include, but are not limited to, the following.
Create and direct comprehensive, multichannel marketing campaigns to create awareness of AJA’s products and services.
Direct efforts to recruit and retain members.
Identify promotional events or activities and organize and direct them efficiently.
Monitor marketing campaigns and submit performance reports.
Conduct market research.
Create annual budgets for Marketing and Communications and monitor and report on financial performance.
COMMUNICATIONS AND MEDIA/MEMBER RELATIONS
Oversee production of weekly e-newsletter AJAlert, including editorial content and graphic design. Monitor open and click-thru rates.
Research popular press and appropriate nonprofit and government sources for news/feature items.
Assist other Departments with production of e-mails generated through Constant Contact, including editorial review and graphics development.
Respond to outside requests and queries on corrections/jails issues and AJA public policies/legislative positions.
Craft press releases and other member/media relations pieces.
Monitor current developments in the field of corrections, jail issues and other relevant topics/research of concern to AJA’s constituency. In addition, when appropriate, relay articles of significant interest to Board Members and AJA staff.
In conjunction with the Communications and Publications Manger, establish style guidelines for AJA publications and correspondence.
Oversee writing, editing and/or designing AJA brochures and other collateral materials.
Proof/edit all publications in conjunction with the Communications and Publications Manger.
Approve and maintain overall graphic design for AJA products and publications (branding).
Monitor and update AJA information posted to social media.
Establish and maintain style guide and product branding.
ADVERTISING AND EXHIBITOR SALES
Oversee the marketing and selling of sponsors and exhibit hall space for the Annual Conference & Jail Expo and other AJA meetings.
Direct developing, creating/designing, marketing, and selling of advertisements in all AJA publications through personal calls, faxes, e-mails, and letters.
Supervise the Manager of Sales and Marketing.
