The Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute (INI), part of the Keck School of Medicine of USC, is a premiere neuroscience research institute and a leader in the fields of computational neuroscience, image computing and bioinformatics. Located in a state-of-the-art facility at USCâs Health Sciences Campus, INI researchers study the human brain in health and disease, developing atlases and models of neural structure and function using multiple modes, scales, and methodologies. The group also maintains data archival storage on the order of petabytes, and provides web services and computing resources for hundreds of researchers and collaborators both at USC and worldwide.
INI seeks an experienced and versatile Editor/Writer II to translate our groundbreaking research into engaging, informative content for multiple audiences. The Editor/Writer II will design, research, create, edit, and present relevant multimedia content for internal and external stakeholders.
*Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external scientists. Assess changing communications needs; then research, develop and implement content-based solutions.
*Write, review and edit press releases translating our research into exciting stories and updates for the public. Collaborate with USC PR and Marketing teams to disseminate materials to the widest possible audience, including both internal and external media organizations.
*Create and modify web content on a regular basis, including for our social media accounts.
*Work with USC development to create fundraising materials explaining our mission and research to past, present and future donors.
*Collaborate with visualization specialists to create original multimedia content, including graphics, videos, animations, and digital elements.
*Assist with the writing and editing of scientific content, such as grant proposals, publications, and web materials for our national and international collaborators.
*Identify, initiate and manage additional content-related deliverables throughout project lifecycles. This includes the creation of newsletters, websites, brochures, progress reports, and other collateral describing INIâs work to various audiences and increasing the instituteâs exposure.
*Bachelorâs degree in any physical/biomedical science or related field required (neuroscience is preferred). Masterâs degree preferred. Candidates with degrees in communication or journalism, combined with scientific writing experience, are also encouraged to apply.
*3-5 years of experience generating scientific and/or web and multi-media content. Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical or scientific content into materials geared toward a general audience.
*Comprehensive knowledge of web concepts including content strategy, web writing, web editing, user experience design, information architecture, and web analytics.Â Must have a passion for quality user experiences. Aptitude in digital marketing communications and visual solutions is valued.
*Working knowledge of HTML, basic CSS, CMS/web publishing tools (such as WordPress) is a plus.
*Proactive in anticipating problems, proposing solutions, and initiating collaborative resolution. This position is part of a team environment.Â Candidate must be team-oriented but also must be able to work independently.
* Detail oriented and analytical with excellent consulting, problem solving, and verbal communication skills.
* Proven ability to thrive within a cross-functional team. Experience working with multiple personalities on complex projects while juggling competing priorities and constantly changing expectations.
