ACTFL has a immediate opening for a Director of Marketing and Membership. Reporting directly to the Executive Director the Director of Marketing and Membership and Marketing is responsible for leading ACTFL’s overall marketing strategy to generate awareness of and participation in, and revenue from our membership, events, programs, products, and services. Play a central role in developing strong connections with ACTFL’s individual members, organizational members, critical non-member constituencies, and volunteers to build awareness and adoption of ACTFL’s membership benefits and programming. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Marketing and Membership will manage a team of six and serve as a member of the Leadership Team.
Collaborate with the Leadership team to develop and execute marketing strategies that support ACTFL's strategic plan; work with departments to develop and implement annual marketing plans that promote ACTFL events, programs, products, and services.
Communicate through multiple channels with diverse audiences to deliver a compelling, engaging message tailored to their motivations and interests.
Track marketing campaign metrics to assess the effectiveness of messaging and what programs, products, and services are most valued; develop and report on key performance indicators related to marketing activities.
Lead market research to understand the need, interests, motivations, and demographics of current and potential members, as well as consumers of professional development and other services.
Build brand awareness and ensure that ACTFL brand guidelines are enforced.
Collaborate with other staff to ensure that ACTFL website is up-to-date, properly branded, and contains accurate information.
Set annual membership retention and recruitment goals and continually evaluate campaign performance against those goals.
Analyze membership data to inform strategic planning for retention and recruitment campaigns.
Work across teams to plan, execute, and improve strategy, using data-based tools to identify gaps, patterns, and opportunities within campaigns and develop solutions to achieve outcomes.
Responsible for all aspects of membership recruitment, engagement, and retention to include the development of a comprehensive membership strategy.
Oversee the management of the membership database (iMIS), ensuring accuracy and up-to-date data exhibiting a membership journey and pipeline.
Design effective tools and messages to demonstrate the value proposition to potential members and ensure that all stakeholder material clearly communicates this message.
Conduct market research to track and prioritize potential members.
Be a relentless advocate for the member experience, while understanding how to drive organizational priorities.
Analyze membership administration practices and procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
Conduct regular audits of member benefits and gap analyses to determine and refine the membership value proposition.
Serve as staff liaison for assigned committees.
Establish and maintain relationships with internal staff stakeholders to develop new products and services that add member value.
Supports and fully participates in all ACTFL activities as a leader of the organization.
Manages staff through the lens of the ACTFL strategic plan.
Manages their departmental budget, reviews financial statements.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field is required.
Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience marketing in a non-profit membership organization that includes managing the full membership life cycle, understanding member experience and value.
Minimum 5-7 years’ experience managing staff with a demonstrable history of team building and mentoring, focusing on building inclusive and welcoming working environments.
Strong analytical skills for gathering and interpreting member needs, interests, motivations, and requirements
Exceptional project management experience and attention to detail with multiple priorities
The ideal candidate will have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills who is approachable and adaptable with a depth of knowledge in public awareness, marketing, and promotion tactics and techniques.
Outstanding writing, grammar, and proofreading skills; ability to plan and write successful marketing copy.
Demonstrated strength and ability to work effectively across a diverse set of members and stakeholders
Strong, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity & inclusion, and developing marketing strategies with a DEI lens
Solid understanding of existing and emerging inbound marketing approaches, social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram), and search engine optimization
Experience managing multiple social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram) for an organization and/or public campaign
Solid knowledge of website analytics tools like Google Analytics or WebTrends
Experience with Informz bulk email system preferred
Demonstrated experience working with Association Management Systems, preferably iMIS
