UW Medicine Strategic Marketing & Communications is looking for a Copywriter and Content Producer (payroll title: Public Information Specialist) to develop compelling content that inspires people to choose UW Medicine for care using a variety of digital and traditional print channels. The position requires excellent writing and editing skills, experience developing comprehensive campaigns and a common-sense approach to creativity and ideation. It also requires a mission-driven focus and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion when developing content.
Knowledge of content strategy and healthcare is highly desirable.
Copywriting (50%): •Writes compelling advertising and marketing copy for a variety of communication vehicles. Example: Use creative direction and technical specs to produce website copy, a print flier, social media, billboard. •Produces scripts for radio and television advertisements. Example: Write copy for a commercial radio spot and then edit to conform to public radio guidelines. •Develops, writes and edits content for websites, digital marketing assets, presentations and other projects. Examples: write landing page copy for UWMedicine.org to support a marketing campaign. •Develops key messages and establish voice and tone for comprehensive campaigns. Example: Meet with stakeholders to understand needs and target audience. •Collaborate with creative team to develop concepts for marketing campaigns. Example: Propose copy concepts to align with imagery.
Content Production (50%): •Edits and reviews content produced by other team members. Examples: review of articles written by peers or editing of existing web copy. •Concepts, writes and produces email marketing campaigns. Example: Manage “Your Health Lift” monthly newsletter. •Develop and analyze key performance indicators to measure content success. Example: Summarize key data findings to share with the team about whether an email met its goal. •Shepherds content through review, editing and production process. Example: Ensuring content has been through medical review, signed off by stakeholders and published. •Acquires knowledge of UW Medicine’s programs and accomplishments by interviewing faculty, leadership and subject matter experts. •Uses editing, content management, and HTML skills to publish and edit content across various digital platforms. •Supports special projects and administrative initiatives, as well as performs related duties and tasks as assigned. •Work with team to produce short form video and social media posts. Example: Create a YouTube video to celebrate a monthly health observance.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS •Bachelor's degree in English, communications, marketing, or related field AND a minimum of four (4) years of copywriting (digital and print) experience. •Excellent research, writing and editing skills. •Experience in creating content based on SEO best practices. •Understanding of plain-language or patient-centered writing. •Good organizational, analytical and interpersonal communication skills. •Ability to meet deadlines, multitask and prioritize workload. •Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. •Ability to write for different audiences and understanding of appropriate voice and tone. •Enjoys working on a highly collaborative team as well as independently. •Understanding of content design and different requirements of text across different mediums. •Willingness and ability to provide references who can attest to the skills and experience listed above.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS •Knowledge of Associated Press Style. •Experience working with Drupal or other content management systems. •Experience working in a complex organization. •Experience in healthcare marketing. •Experience with design workflow tools that support collaboration, such as Figma.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT •This position will work remotely until September 2021 (the expected return to office timeframe). •Work is performed in an open office setting with noise and other distractions. •The position may travel to various locations to gather information and/or assist with activities. •Position maintains regular office hours Monday through Friday and occasional evening and weekend work to assist with communications or events. •This is an essential position, meaning the individual is required to report to work when the University is under suspended operations due to inclement weather, etc.
