The Senior Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for leading the Boston University School of Public Health's mission-critical department of Marketing & Communications and is responsible for SPHs internal and external marketing and communications, brand positioning, and reputation management. The Senior Director works closely with the Dean on high-level priorities such as marketing strategy, developing innovative and first-in-class communications approaches, as well as always taking efforts to the next level. They serve as a trusted advisor to the Dean on communications and marketing strategies and must have a deep understanding of current trends and best practices in marketing, communications, and digital strategy. They partner with the Dean and lead the MARCOM team on a variety of communication strategies the School engages in, aiming to always achieve a level of professional communication that elevates SPH.
This position is ultimately responsible for leading the communications and marketing strategies that enhance SPHs reputation, elevating its brand, and strengthening its community. This position has extensive scope throughout many high-visibility areas of SPH and partners with units across SPH to advise them in elevating their marketing and communications to the next level. They serve as an expert advisor for the units at SPH, a liaison with Boston University partners, and an ambassador with peer institution colleagues. The Senior Director provides innovative thinking, strategy, and leadership, overseeing a team of eight professionals, directly supervising the Directors of the Writing and Digital teams, respectively. They also oversee external design and content partners. They oversee a multitude of functions at SPH, including editorial, media relations, event marketing, photography, videography, website content, design and programming, internal communications, crisis communications/rapid response, social media, and admissions marketing.
The Senior Director has exceptional program and project management skills, and understands prioritization and resource estimation. They set clear goals for the team, communicates clearly and frequently, helps the team to plan ahead, is focused in all initiatives, and provides materials ahead of schedule. They inspire and motivate the team to create work that is brand-centric and of the highest caliber. The Senior Director is a member of SPH senior leadership, serving on the Governing Council and the Administrative Council. They also serve on the mission-critical Enrollment Committee and share responsibility for SPHs enrollment success.
Education Bachelors required, Masters Preferred Marketing and Administration. Prefer at least 8 years of work experience.
