University Marketing and Communications is searching for a senior copywriter-one who understands that compelling content is foundational piece for the expression of any brand strategy. Someone who seeks to define, develop and enhance UMSL communications to reach target audiences with messages that resonate and lead to action. A skilled communicator who provides strategic insights and direction for content approaches that elevate and express our university.
UMSL's senior copywriter will lead the development of content for a variety of audiences across a range of tactical communications, including print (promotional materials, brochures, direct mail and other collateral) and digital (websites, emails campaigns, infographics, advertisements and video). Though a key focus will be copywriting for prospective student materials, the senior copywriter will also develop content for current students, faculty and staff, administrators, alumni and donors, and a myriad of stakeholders in the broader St. Louis community.
As a central support service for units across the university, University Marketing and Communications produces hundreds of communications each year. From print brochures to environmental graphics, from promotional videos to digital assets and executive communications to presentations, each project strategically represents the university and meets the needs of our institution. It all starts with quality content paired with quality design. In addition to being an effective copywriter, this position will have responsibilities that include:
Serve as a project lead/manager- overseeing content and creative planning and implementation for an array of marketing and communication efforts to ensure consistency in messaging /design to support the goals and objectives of the university and meet the needs of target audiences.
Work collaboratively with our in-house creative services, web services and public relations teams to provide strategic direction for content creation and alignment of effective design to produce a variety of communication and marketing deliverables.
Provides strategic insight for copy and design approaches that include calls to action that support lead generation, lead nurturing, conversions and engagements for various campaigns.
Manage the unit's relationship and involvement with multiple external vendors to ensure brand consistency and messaging for contracted activities.
Develop a strong understanding of academic and administrative programs across all disciplines to create compelling narrative around each to educate and inspire audiences.
Write and proofread content to ensure error-free copy, Data and information accuracy, and ensure visually attractive formatting, spacing, and graphics that adhere to established standards.
Develop templates, boilerplate language, pride points, university narratives, and related resources or tools that may support units beyond Marcom.
Manage multiple projects as well as office workflow to ensure on-time submissions.
Other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Experience working in either an in-house or an external agency or communication environment and submit a portfolio of work that may be submitted with application.
