One of the global leaders in online/distance learning, Rice Online is a growing unit within Top 20-ranked Rice University, focused on delivering best-in-class digital learning experiences and outcomes to a diverse base of online students across the "learning lifecycle." To realize our mission of making Rice's top-quality, rigorous online programs more accessible to the right students, we're seeking an energetic, versatile graphic designer to help expand our in-house marketing and video production capabilities. You'll join a modern function tasked with overseeing the end-to-end student experience, with a strong emphasis on high-quality, professional graphic design (both static and motion/video) and clean, effective UX/UI design.
The ideal candidate will be excited to join a hard-working, fun and collaborative team that drives meaningful outcomes for Rice University. They will be able to work with a diverse range of stakeholders to manage design from conceptualization to production, for a diverse range of graphic design needs.
Designs digital content and web projects for a variety of internal clients
Designs materials including emails, digital content, invitations, fliers, and other communications
Understands editorial design and appropriate use of design elements such as fonts, illustration and photographs
Creates camera-ready art including graphs, charts, Web-based graphics, and the digitization of graphics, line-art or photos
Performs all other duties as assigned
Conceptualize, design, produce and maintain omnichannel marketing and sales materials: web content/imagery, emails, video GFX, brochures, presentation templates/design, intuitive reports/data viz, and more
Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Manager, marketing agency, and other key partners to optimize students' digital/mobile experience, including UX/UI for public-facing websites and the secure application experience
Partner with the Video Production team to ideate, storyboard and animate motion content that drives key online learning outcomes (e.g., student engagement and understanding)
Create and maintain core design templates, documentation and component libraries for range of channels
May substitute additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis in lieu of the education requirement
One year of related graphic design experience
Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of graphic design, using a range of media, methods, techniques, and equipment
Good writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills
Understanding of web technologies and applications, including social networking, social media tools, and current communication trends
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines
Two+ years of graphic design experience, which may include internships or other work experience
Well-rounded portfolio demonstrating omnichannel design and technical production capabilities (digital, social, video/motion, print)
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
Basic understanding of online learning best practices, SEO, digital user experience, and/or data-driven marketing techniques
