The Department of Marketing and Communications is seeking a Web Strategy and Analytics Manager (Website Designer) who is responsible for leading all Johns Hopkins Carey Business School website strategy, development and execution to ensure an advanced and competitive web presence, especially in the higher education field. This position is a critical role in the organization as s/he will serve as the strategic lead for the school website with the goal of driving traffic, engagement, and click-throughs for a seamless user experience for prospects, current students, faculty, alumni, and more.
Working with Carey's newly-launched Content Management System (CMS) platform Drupal, s/he will lead the design, development and execution of the school's Web and mobile device-based Web presence as well as individual large-scale web projects and initiatives. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Integrated and Digital Marketing, this position will work closely with departments across the Carey Business School, including the Dean, Vice Deans, and the entire Management Council, to develop and present web strategies and plans and ensure that Carey's branding and web standards are applied while managing quality assurance of all web content.
This role will have direct management over the external digital agency relationship. In addition, s/he will also indirectly manage and train more than 25 internal web content editors to ensure a unified web experience from both a content and design perspective. The Web Strategy and Analytics Manager will own and lead Carey's search engine optimization (SEO) strategy and plans, including optimization suggestions for content, keyword growth tracking, quantifying the impact of search traffic, and vendor management. They will also lead tracking web performance via web analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Crazy Egg, and others in order to provide recommendations to all departments including Senior Leadership for driving revenue to leadership.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Web Leadership: 60%
Lead overarching strategic vision (including strategy, research, project roadmap, and requirements) for the Carey website and execution of all major web projects spanning design, development and optimization
Responsible for the development and execution of a school-wide Web strategy to create more awareness of Carey's programs and offerings
Lead day-to-day relationship with external digital agency for maintenance, specific requests and initiatives, and overall support including ownership of digital agency budget analysis and recommendations
Responsible for internal and external website content and management, to include managing Web presence for the school, its departments, and programs
Research best practices in Web design and content delivery and make recommendations to management, including the Dean, with goals of continuous improvements and driving revenue
Lead and train Carey's 25+ Drupal CMS content editors, and manage departmental updates via a workflow process
Maintain Web presence including page design and content to maintain relevancy and brand; including graphics, landing pages, videos, and photography; as well as overall quality assurance
Conduct research as needed in user groups for specific digital initiatives
Promote brand in Web and mobile Web media spaces to address needs of multiple audiences
Lead the integration of third-party feeds into the website (ex. 25Live, Salesforce, etc.)
Work to strategically implement content to support ad campaigns, including designing and developing content for landing pages to advance advertising and PR strategies
Search Engine Optimization Leadership: 20%
Serve as the SEO lead and subject matter expert to advise teams in marketing and other departments on current and future SEO trends and best practices
Apply SEO knowledge and best keywords to enable great performance across Carey website and digital properties
Monitor quality, click-through rates and conversion rates across accounts
Analytics & Reporting: 15%
Conduct Web analytics to track and measure advertising effectiveness and return on investment and to generate Web traffic reports to support management and budgetary decisions
Maintain Carey's Google Analytics account, providing monthly reports on activity and engagement
Strong understanding of best practices in reviewing and reporting Web analytics to track and measure advertising effectiveness and return on investment and to generate Web traffic reports to support management and budgetary decisions
Make recommendations regarding Web traffic data analysis and reporting, as well as website and online advertising
Responsible for proactive ROI reporting to stakeholders, including school leadership
Conduct research on an as-needed basis to specific target audiences to support further optimization
Conduct competitor research and analysis and present recommendations to leadership
Other duties as assigned: 5%
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Four years related experience required. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
7+ years of successful experience in Web design, editing, writing, and content management using various software programs preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong creative and critical thinking skills.
High degree of proficiency in writing, editing, and organizing content for digital media.
Ability to work autonomously in the areas of broad-based Web content development and organization, graphical presentation, Web traffic and Web ROI reporting.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, to include managing multiple concurrent projects and priorities, organize workflow, and meet deadlines.
Outstanding ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to include marketing and communications department, Carey departments, external agencies, and JHU-wide departments and colleagues.
Must possess a strong knowledge and/or experience with the following: Microsoft Office suite software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop; and CMS platforms, specifically Drupal and Wordpress.
Knowledge of HTML and CSS.
Experience working with web project tracking tools like JIRA.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
