Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy is seeking a Director of Strategy and Operations (DSO). The DSO will serve as a key member of the leadership team, ensures the effective operation of the Institute's work, and manages the Institute's communications and outreach strategy.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage the Institute's strategic plan and planning process, outlining short- and long-term goals, priorities, and strategies.
Develop systems and methods for measuring and regularly evaluating the Institute's impact and progress against goals.
Evaluate organizational structure, staff roles and responsibilities, and related Institute-wide infrastructure and programmatic components; recommend enhancements, changes, or improvements, as needed.

Team Leader & Manager:
Contribute to the overall leadership of the Institute and ensure a culture that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and teamwork.
Lead the alignment, development, and efficacy of individual staff, teams, and initiatives to ensure a collaborative, integrated approach to all work.
Support internal communication and cross-collaboration among all team members.
Identify opportunities for improvement and deploy new processes, systems, and tools to help produce high-quality and on-time work product.
Manage external contractors and vendors, inclusive of editorial writers, designers, videographers, web developers and media and marketing consultants.
Support direct reports' professional development and career goals.
Communications, Marketing, & Outreach:
Oversee all aspects of the Institute's communications, including strategy, management, implementation, and creation of content and materials.
Coordinate communications strategy and content with the leadership of the JHU School of Education; ensure consistency with SOE and university-level communications.
Establish written and visual style guidelines to ensure the Institute communicates with a singular voice and vision.
Define clear communication goals and establish a comprehensive communications plan spanning social media, email outreach, website, and earned media.
Elevate the Institute as a thought leader in national and international education policy.
Design templates and processes for high-quality reports, tools, and other communications materials to engage a variety of key audiences.
Create strong project plans with key communications strategies and objectives, and ensure alignment and efficiency across internal teams and external vendors and consultants.
Provide strategic creative, content, and marketing guidance and assistance on grant proposals.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor's Degree required.
Five years' related experience.

Contract management experience.
7-15 years' work-related experience preferred.
Experience in an academic setting, state agency, or education policy nonprofit is strongly preferred.

A recognized track record in communications and management in the K-12 education sector.
Expert knowledge of the key players in the field of education policy, their organizations, and their policy positions.
Strong leadership and management skills with a proven record of effective team management.
Ability to work cross-functionally and collaborate at all levels across geographies and departments.
Results-driven; able to multitask and successfully manage a variety of complex projects, both internal and external.
Impeccable organization skills, attention to detail, and time management.
A self-starter with a track record of assessing and fulfilling new growth opportunities.
Outstanding oral, written, visual, and interpersonal communication skills.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:
Expert in marketing tools and platforms including social media platforms, tools and analytics, website content management systems, and digital marketing tools and software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and MailChimp.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and SharePoint, Teams, and other Microsoft cloud-based services.
