Reporting to the director of marketing communications, the marketing communications project manager is responsible for supporting the daily functions of the Communications & Public Affairs (C&PA) team to ensure the high quality creative output of the group. This includes the coordination of internal and external resources for excellent execution, ensuring projects answer the creative brief and are delivered on time and within budget.
The marketing communications project manager also acts as a bridge between the Creative Services and Digital Marketing teams. She supports the department’s email marketing function, including serving as a main point of contact for campus partners who use MailChimp, providing ongoing training and technical and design support. The marketing communications project manager also supports the director of digital marketing with general website editing projects. This includes regular updates to existing websites and the development of new web properties as needed.
The ideal candidate will have a general knowledge of project management best practices for both print and digital. This role requires a high level of organization and the ability to adapt to changing deadlines.
The marketing communications project manager will help contribute to the C&PA group’s overarching mission to increase Wellesley’s visibility in the world. All of the marketing communications project manager efforts will help reinforce the College’s mission and brand positioning and reflect its visual identity and key messages.
Primary Position Responsibilities:
-Work closely with the director of marketing communications, director of digital marketing, director of design, and graphic designer to prioritize, track, and coordinate the development of primarily digital, but some print, deliverables.
-Create and manage project timelines under the guidance of the director of marketing communications, helping to ensure that deadlines and launch dates are met.
-Maintain a responsive, open-line of communication with all colleagues and departments to assist with creative design, copywriting, pre-production and production aspects of a project.
-Provides support to the directors of marketing and digital marketing related to the College’s email marketing program, including maintaining the calendar of email announcements, developing and scheduling email campaigns, providing training to campus partners, and working with the design team to develop new email templates.
-Provide general website editing support in close collaboration with the director of digital marketing, including but not limited to: project managing new website projects and updates to existing web properties, making web content accessible, interfacing with departments to understand their needs, creating documentation, and other ongoing support as needed.
-Support the director of marketing communications in managing project budgets, including production estimates and design expenses; ensure thorough and accurate project records are maintained.
-Support the director of marketing communications in developing and promoting the College’s Events webpages, helping to publicize events open to the public each semester. The marketing communications project manager will develop promotional materials for individual events as appropriate
-Oversee the C&PA group’s photography database and the student workers who support it.
-Take on other responsibilities, as needed.
1 to 3 years of experience in a communications, marketing, or digital marketing role preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Excellent organizational, time management, and analytical/problem-solving skills are required, along with a high degree of flexibility
Ability to multitask; extremely organized and detail-oriented
Ability to set and abide by project deadlines; ability to prioritize projects; experience managing both urgent, short-term projects and complex, longer-term projects
Experience managing design-driven projects
Familiarity with key concepts in print and/or digital production
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and PhotoShop, preferred
Experience using Drupal or other content management system preferred
Experience using MailChimp or other email marketing software programs preferred
Ability to work and collaborate with a variety of constituencies including various College departments and groups and outside vendors/contributors
