Drake University's Office of University Communications and Marketing invites applications for the position of Social Media Specialist. This individual will develop and manage paid and owned content to support the brand and overarching objectives on social media platforms. A successful candidate will be both passionate about social media and storytelling - with a proven ability to craft content based on audience insight and platform knowledge.
The Social Media Specialist should push the University forward by remaining knowledgeable about best practices and trends while working to stay ahead of emerging platforms/technologies. A learning mindset is appreciated in that this individual is responsible for analyzing and communicating metrics in clear fashion, and using that information to inform recommendations and guide decision-making.
A spirit of service and passion for helping others is valued, in that this individual will also help campus partners make strategic decisions surrounding social media.
Support the marketing team and senior-level campus leaders by identifying and understanding the University's high-level needs and priorities related to social media. Define social media objectives, and develop and manage strategies to meet these objectives. Manage the creation of a social content calendar that aligns to greater University key messaging initiatives. Provide oversight and guidance to other social media managers across the University, including ownership of University guidelines related to social/digital media. Evaluate and assess the strategic value of emerging communications tools for enhancing the image and reputation of the University, and particularly for helping drive student recruitment and retention.
Plan and execute paid social/digital media campaigns to meet strategic communications objectives of the University. Analyze the effectiveness of such efforts, generate timely reports, and provide proactive recommendations, based on analysis. Work with external partners when applicable to make data-informed decisions.
Research, write, coordinate, and/or disseminate social media and/or digital content through appropriate channels, including special University digital publications.
Help the communications team monitor and analyze external social/digital media to assess the impact of third-party content and conversation on the image and reputation of the University. Support the University's crisis communication efforts under supervision of the Communications Director.
Manage special programs, as assigned, to help advance the University's image and reputation (e.g. Beautiful Bulldog Contest).
Supervise student workers; assist with recruitment, hiring, disciplinary action and performance review.
Assist with budget management, taking primary accountability for the social media and digital marketing portion(s) of that budget. Strive to efficiently steward University resources.
