The Coordinator for Student Engagement is charged with developing programs and services designed to facilitate student involvement, enhance the overall student experience, and positively impact student retention/satisfaction. The position provides direction and leadership to major student programming initiatives on campus by serving as the primary advisor for the Homecoming Student Steering Committee. The position will also support marketing efforts for the office through social media and digital marketing. The Coordinator will assist the Assistant Director for Student Engagement with the day-to-day operations needed to support the Student Programs Steering Committee and other large scale campus programs and will supervise the Graduate Assistant for Student Engagement. The Coordinator is a team member in the Office of Student and Family Engagement and reports to the Assistant Director for Student Engagement. This position requires evening and weekend hours.
Duties and Responsibilities
Campus Programming & Traditions
Lead the development and implementation of meaningful and inspiring student traditions; provide leadership development and support to the student committee members; work collaboratively with the Office of Alumni Affairs, University Relations and UTC Athletics to plan Homecoming and manage communication with university stakeholders; provide budgetary oversight for the Homecoming budget; negotiate contracts with performers and vendors; ensure expenditures are appropriate and in compliance with the University Fiscal Policies; and provide on-site supervision at the programs organized by these groups.
Serve as primary manager for office social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; develop regular content on all social media platforms to market office efforts and engage students; maintain compliance with the UTC Social Media Policy, Editorial and Style Guidelines, and Graphic Guidelines; and create and distribute the Scrappy Newsletter, a weekly e-newsletter that communicates campus events and announcements to students.
Manage the Elections function in MocSync for various campus needs, including updating candidate and eligibility lists; attend appropriate University functions and campus events to maintain visibility/approachability; assist with other events/programs sponsored by the Office of Student and Family Engagement and other units within the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs; serve on office and divisional program initiatives and university committees; establish positive working relationships with campus partners and key stakeholders; stay abreast of current trends related to student leadership, programming, and social media marketing; and perform other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Knowledge of issues and challenges facing undergraduate students
Experience with event planning, contract negotiation, leadership development, budget development and management, and motivating students
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to take initiative and work independently in setting priorities to ensure that responsibilities are carried out in an accurate and timely fashion
Ability and willingness to function as a member of a team
Commitment to continued personal and professional development
Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff and community members of diverse backgrounds

Minimum Requirements: Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 1 year of full-time experience working with student activities/campus programming and marketing in a professional role; and will consider two years of graduate assistant experience as one year of full time experience.
Preferred Requirements: Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or other relevant discipline; 2 years of full time experience working with student activities/campus programming and marketing in a professional role; demonstrated experience with the Anthology Engage platform; and experience with social media marketing in a professional setting.
