Marketing and Communications Specialist 6411BR University Advancement Marketing, Annual Giving & Stewardship
Detailed Job Description Responsible for supporting the development and execution of the strategic marketing and communications plans aimed at driving fundraising, donor participation, and alumni engagement across all university constituencies and in support of the divisional goals and objectives. The Marketing and Communications Specialist position will generate heavily persuasive writing with the expectation to successfully write for a variety of platforms and initiatives, including presentations, scripts/talking points, social media, feature articles, editorials, correspondence, websites, brochures, donor proposals as examples. The candidate must have the ability to develop a compelling story with a memorable turn of phrases that evoke emotion, inspire action and with the ability to move quickly between assignments for the platforms in a busy and fast-paced environment. While the Marketing and Communications Specialist position reports to the Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications, they will work in collaboration and closely with each member of the University Advancement marketing team.
Provide leadership in the development of strategic, integrated marketing and communications plans in collaboration with divisional partners.
Responsible for building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with Annual Giving, Alumni and Constituent Relations and University Development teams.
Develop and produce the required materials to assist in delivering the division's mission, goals and objectives for fundraising, donor participation and alumni engagement.
Craft personalized, customized and persuasive direct marketing appeals in support of annual giving goals and objectives.
Develop donor-centric, highly persuasive fundraising proposals and cases for fundraising support in collaboration with major and principal gift officers.
Create copy for collateral (e.g., sell sheets, event collateral, etc.) and provide art direction to the graphic designer as needed.
Collaborate with digital marketing and communications manager to deliver consistent messaging across all channels.
Copy/edit marketing materials and communications in adherence to RIT's editorial style guide and brand guidelines.
Provide on-going support for major programs and initiatives of the division and the university including but not limited to Brick City Homecoming events, donor/alumni award events, Imagine RIT Festival, presidential and retiree events, giving and gratitude days, and convocation/commencement among others. Contribute content, as needed and in collaboration with the digital marketing and communications specialist and marketing operations specialist, to the division's website. Provide support as needed and act as back up to the digital marketing and communications specialist with respect to email and social media marketing.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 3-5 years marketing experience including direct marketing/direct response.
Outstanding verbal, presentation, and written communication skills: an attentive listener, articulate public speaker, and clear and persuasive writer. High energy, clear goal orientation, and attention to detail.
Current knowledge and technical understanding of communications tools (all varieties) available on the market and experience in connecting with large, diverse audiences.
Proven copy writing skills and the ability to write compelling marketing and solicitation copy for both print and digital environments.
Ability to independently initiate, organize and complete program/project plans.
Team-oriented with the ability to work independently. Proven time management abilities.
Experience with web content management (e.g., Drupal) and email marketing platforms.
Experience with social media platforms and tools (e.g., Social Studio).
Experience with Adobe Photoshop is preferred.
Demonstrated experience with HTML/CSS and custom template designs within content management systems (CMS) a plus.
Experience or interest in higher education and fundraising.
