Position Details:Summary of Duties:The WSU College of Nursing on the Health Sciences campus in Spokane, WA is seeking a customer service-oriented website developer to create and maintain compelling and effective website pages and digital marketing channels (multimedia and web applications) for the College of Nursing. This position will exercise a high degree of autonomy and independent decision-making to provide daily administration, development, and maintenance of the College of Nursing website. The ability to follow established style sheets while using best judgement with regard to aesthetics, as well as a basic understanding of consistency, typography, and page layout, will be integral to this role. Incumbent will be expected to build collaborative relationships with stakeholders to ensure that content is accurate, effective and published in a timely manner and respond to leadership and faculty requests as needed. This position works with internal contacts at the campus and within the WSU system related to site development, performance, and coordination with other University web pages.
Job Duties: 70% Web Publishing and Marketing- Design, update, maintain, and publish web pages and social media posts.
- Add formatting, headlines, hyperlinks, and metadata to provided content using WordPress, Elementor, HTML, and CSS.
- Create new and update existing plugins, themes, and custom functionality based on needs of the college, best practices, and changes to university expectations.
- Work within existing brand guidelines to select, prepare, and upload optimized images, graphics, buttons, and other visual components to website content.
- Review and check finalized website content and pages for errors in grammar, spelling, design, formatting, etc. before publication
- Continuously evaluate and monitor website analytics to inform website Search Engine Optimization and usability.
- Evaluate digital platforms regularly using analytics and user feedback, benchmarking against competitor sites and targeting potential improvements.
- Design, develop, and manage online forms and notification systems, export data as needed. Work with college units and programs to evaluate their form needs and create efficiencies.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to ensure alignment with university and college brand standards.
25% Web Maintenance and Support- Find and repair broken links or issues with navigation.
- Maintain existing code by troubleshooting issue/bug reports and implementing appropriate fixes
- Participate in website quality testing and troubleshoot for issues, creating well-documented support tickets for any bugs or design updates required to deliver high-quality website design and builds.
- Recommend process/work-flow changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness of pages
- Create briefs, scopes of work, and timelines for web development projects based on the needs of the college
- Ensure web accessibility standards are met.
5% Other - Perform other job duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:A Bachelor's degree in information science or related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in web site design, development and maintenance. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Requirements: - Proficient coding with HTML, CSS/SCSS and JavaScript.
- Working knowledge of web content accessibility guidelines and experience applying them in web development.
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build key relationships with clients and others in the college, as well as team colleagues.
- Experience communicating technical information to nontechnical audiences.
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop and other web design/production tools such as WordPress, Elementor, or similar CMS and page builder.
- Proficient Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and Word) and MacOS.
- Experience that demonstrates the ability to work independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:- Understanding of responsive website design.
- Experience with Google Analytics or comparable web analytics software.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud products.
- Ability to learn new technologies and web management tools.
- Familiarity or work with Nursing or other health care disciplines.
