50% CONTENT CREATION AND SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT
- Develop, curate, and manage content for a variety of Michigan Medicine social media properties, focusing on educational programs and research across the U-M Medical School
- Contribute to digital content calendars for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn for review and approval by the Department of Communication PR and social media team.
- Interview faculty and subject matter experts to develop stories for the Michigan Medicine blogs, focusing on educational programs, people, scientific work, and culture across the U-M Medical School
- Leverage design and creative copywriting skills to recommend and execute campaign ideas and optimize conversion
- Attend medical school events to provide live social media support when necessary
- Create and maintain social media editorial calendars that deliver compelling content aligned with the Michigan Medicine and U-M Medical School brand
30% SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY
- Provide insight into social media and digital marketing opportunities based on goals, benchmarking, trends, and historical results
- Develop, drive, implement, and execute digital strategies for the U-M Medical School in support of and in collaboration with the Michigan Medicine Department of Communication
- Benchmark, test, and develop strategic plans for channels and features not currently used by the medical school and drive the launch and maintenance of those plans
- Plan, coordinate and maintain paid social campaigns for the U-M Medical School in collaboration with the Michigan Medicine PR, marketing, and social media teams
10% REPORTING AND ANALYTICS
- Identify digital KPIs to create data-centered reports that can be understood and utilized by communications colleagues as well as Michigan Medicine and U-M Medical School leadership
- Identify areas for strategic shifts based on tangible metrics like engagement, audience analysis and campaign-specific performance
10% COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS
- As part of the Michigan Medicine Department of Communication, attend meetings with the social media and PR team to share insights, learnings, and plan for future crossover content
- Work with the departments, institutes, and centers across the U-M Medical School to provide best practices, governance, and a strategy for cross promotion
- Work with communicators across the U-M Medical School, Michigan Medicine and the University of Michigan schools and colleges to promote collaboration and cross promotion
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
- 6-8 years of combined social media, content creation, digital strategy, and writing experience
- Experience on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, as well as other emerging platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficient in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and familiarity with AP style necessary
- Passion for social communications, innovation, branding, and promotions
- Experience working collaboratively to set goals, implement projects, and assess success
- Demonstrated success in communicating and creating in the social space
- Accustomed to the strategic use of social platforms for brand awareness, reputation management, and customer service
- Must be comfortable in a multi-layered organization with complex reporting relationships
- Ability to determine and execute social strategy, working closely with cross-functional team members to meet business objectives
- Ability to produce high-quality work on deadline and handle several projects at once
- Ability to take both direction and initiative
- Skilled multi-tasker, excellent listener, and extremely organized
- Experience using Microsoft Excel to compile statistics, build formulas, create charts and create pivot tables
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
- Possess a basic understanding of social media KPIs and conversion rate optimization tactics to effectively analyze data and provide actionable recommendations
- Experience with Facebook Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, and Twitter Ads
- Experience with social media management and scheduling tools, like Sprout Social and Hootsuite to gather analytics and schedule posts
- Experience communicating in an academic medical center or with an academic audience including scientists and learners.
- Writing for a technical or academic audience
Core business hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends may be required. Work to be performed in hybrid setting, split between remote and on site at the Department of Communication and/or Health System properties. On call media duties after hours, one week per quarter
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
