WRITER EDITOR 3 (Marketing Communications Specialist)Department Description
Department DescriptionStrategic Communications provides comprehensive and coordinated campus leadership in developing, planning, creating and implementing strategic communications programs based on the department's goals and objectives. The department works across all media to foster increased awareness, understanding and support of UC Davis' mission, vision, accomplishments, impacts and needs among its many internal and external constituencies. It serves as the official voice of UC Davis to regional, state, national and international news media. Strategic Communications encompasses six units: Visual Communications, News and Media Relations, Web Communications, Social Media, Marketing and Undergraduate Admissions Communications. Strategic Communications' multimedia storytellers, writers, social media practitioners, designers, web developers, information architects and search-engine experts have a mission to communicate university messages through interactive media. We coordinate these communications across platforms to reach our audiences. Our efforts can be seen on the ucdavis.edu, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and other sites and channels. Unit Specific Job Scope: The Undergraduate Admissions Communications team is responsible for creating and implementing strategies and communications to attract prospective students, supporting a unified approach to the campus's brand and identity guidelines, providing marketing communications resources and services, creating and managing communications vehicles that serve the recruitment, yield and outreach efforts of Undergraduate Admissions, and staying in touch with best practices for reaching Undergraduate Admissions' target audiences.
Job Summary Under general direction of the Undergraduate Admissions marketing manager within Strategic Communications, this position has considerable responsibility for assisting in the development and execution of marketing and communications strategies for UC Davis Undergraduate Admissions, as well as campus-wide student recruitment, yield and outreach related activities.
Duties include overall strategic development; target audience research; development and analysis of strategic marketing efforts; conceptualization and project management of marketing assets; researching, writing, editing and producing clear and compelling communications pieces for print, digital and web media; placement and coordination of advertisements and other marketing materials; video concepting and production.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAdditional Minimum License/Certification: Minimum Education/Experience: - Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communications or a related discipline, or equivalent experience/training.
- Minimum of three years experience as a communications professional, writing and developing messaging for broad audiences.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience in the principles of marketing communications, practices and trends leveraging research learnings and using multiple media channels; developing and implementing integrated marketing campaigns and branding strategies; identifying Key Performance Indicator (KPIs) to analyze successes and adjust strategies.
- Experience creating, implementing, managing and measuring social media engagement strategies, developing content and strategies across multiple channels using best practices.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) : - Demonstrated skill to conceptualize, prepare and produce creative and original copy for promotional literature under limited supervision and often under tight timelines; to write and edit accurately and creatively following professional journalistic practices and styles; to understand and translate complex concepts into lay terms.
- Demonstrated project management, organizational skills and knowledge of tools with the ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects across teams and departments to work on multiple projects with short turnaround times and competing deadlines; establish goals, timelines and workload priorities with minimal supervision; develop, manage and successfully complete projects on-budget and on-time.
- Demonstrated impersonal skills to clearly communicate both orally and in writing on job specifications/instructions to ensure quality, and to express ideas clearly and concisely.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSAdditional Preferred License/Certification:Preferred Education/Experience: - Experience specializing in higher education admissions marketing and public relations; skill to read, understand, analyze, interpret, evaluate, and apply federal and state law, as well as university rules, regulations and policies including campus issues.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) : - Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, prepress and production and video editing and project management software.
- Familiarity with UC Davis identity standards.
