Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is looking for a Director of Design to guide the visual elements of our brand and marketing within our Marketing & Communications group. In this senior creative role, you will have the unique opportunity to lead the rollout of a new Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center visual brand.
You will be responsible for ensuring clarity, consistency and integrity in the presentation of our brand. You will oversee creative development of brand expressions and marketing campaigns produced both in-house and in conjunction with external agencies. You will lead a talented team of designers guiding their work and ensuring the organization has the creative resources needed to achieve our mission.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee development and delivery of purpose-driven creative inclusive of graphic design, illustration, photography, video and other creative elements across digital channels, paid media, environmental branding and more
- Be a brand champion! Establish governance standards and other systems that facilitate productivity and brand cohesion. Own the brand style guide and visual identity. Be a brand gatekeeper, ensuring that all creative adheres to the guidelines.
- Lead a team of creatives tasked with developing the collateral materials that support the Center's strategic objectives and are aligned to our audiences
- Collaborate with other Marketing and Communications leaders in support of integrated marketing to boost campaign performance, web traffic, engagement and conversion
- Present creative insights, recommendations or projects for executive audiences
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in creative, graphic or visual design, human-centered design, fine arts or related
- 10+ years of progressively responsible creative leadership, design, and/or digital marketing experience in healthcare, agency, e-commerce and/or non-profit space
- 7+ years mentoring/managing creative teams inclusive of user experience designers
- Track record of building rapport/successfully collaborating with executive leadership, peers and partners (clinical, scientific, academic and/or non-profit setting preferred)
- Cause marketing, academic and/or research experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience with brand/co-brand development, extension and expression
- Deep background in classic design knowledge (use of typography, color, paper, printing techniques) and execution
- Conversant in online and offline marketing techniques and principles, including digital/print communications, event production, fundraising, social media, earned media, SEO, SEM, advertising, email marketing and content marketing
- At ease working in a fast-paced, iterative environment, partnering with others and synthesizing feedback
- Naturally curious, supportive and empathetic
- Excellent ability to conceptualize, communicate and inspire
- Analytically minded approach and good problem-solving skills, coupled with creative orientation
- Ability to guide creative brainstorm sessions to support new initiatives and improve user experience
Technical Proficiencies
- Software: Adobe Creative Cloud/Creative Suite (InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator, AfterEffects), PowerPoint, KeyNote, InVision, Sketch, Zeplin, Asana, Tableau, CSS
- CMS: Adobe Experience Manager
