Department Information
The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education oversees programs and initiatives in support of outstanding academic experiences for all IU Bloomington undergraduate students. It provides advising, testing, and enrichment resources for students at all stages and leads initiatives that assess, support, and improve undergraduate teaching and learning.
Job Summary
The Communications and Marketing Manager (CMM) is responsible for a range of communications and marketing strategies for the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (OVPUE).
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Works closely with the directors and staff of OVPUE units as a partner on a variety of communications and marketing initiatives, including web design and development, social media, electronic and print communications, and promotional ideas.
Provides leadership in the conceptualization and development of graphic images and content; designs communication and promotional concepts that deliver high quality consistent messaging with IU brand identity.
Hires and supervises media student interns; provides direction, distributes assignments relating to photography and design production, and ensures project expectations and deadlines are met.
General Responsibilities
Monitors industry trends and best practices and makes process and operational and strategic recommendations to manager.Directs day-to-day operations for the marketing and communications function by providing oversight and direction within a department or large multi-faceted department.
Trains, evaluates, coaches, assigns work, and supervises the work of a team of Communications Generalists and/or Communications Assistants.
Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders; determines communications needs, projects, and programs to align with objectives and goals and supervises processes such as the development of communications timelines related to such initiatives.
Reviews drafts of communications and coaches on grammar, tone, branding guidelines, formatting, and other elements that may affect the perception of messaging or reputation of the department.
Responds to escalated and complex inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications.
Regularly monitors relevant social media and news sites; researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty.
May assist in budget planning and administration for communications initiatives, including expenditures, revenue projections, and program costs.

Required
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations, or a related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
