DEPARTMENT OVERVIEWThe Seymour Marine Discovery Center, founded in 2000, serves as the outreach and public education component of the Physical and Biological Division of the University of California Santa Cruz. The Seymour Center educates people of all ages about marine science research to inspire ocean conservation and action. The Center consists of a 17,500-square-foot facility with additional outdoor features on a cliff above the Pacific Ocean located on the UC Santa Cruz Coastal Campus.

JOB SUMMARYAssists in all marketing activities for the Seymour Center. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, creating promotional materials for our educational events and programs, creating an annual marketing plan, and drafting a style guide and voice for all Seymour Center public communications. It also includes creating a brand voice, conducting basic market research, etc. Activities and assignments created expose incumbents to fundamental marketing concepts and principles.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATIONSalary Information: Salary Range: $26.34 - $30.17/hour. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES35% - Event and Campaign Management
- Promotes the Seymour Center exhibitions, events, programs, and rentals through all channels in an effort to increase attendance: social media, e-newsletter, website, press releases, event signage, and more.
- Under direct supervision, manages lead generation campaigns to create more donors, members, sponsors, volunteers, and collaborators.
- Bolsters partnerships by providing good customer service and resolving problems.
25% - Digital Content Creation
- Creates world-class digital content.
- Manages all content on the Seymour Center website and online presence.
- Produces original content, including partner stories, educational content, behind-the-scenes stories, and more.
15% - Marketing and Communications Branding
- Contributes to the creation of the Seymour Center marketing and communications branding.
- Builds and maintains voice guides, branding language, and other materials necessary for a consistent voice across the Seymour Center and all of their communications.
15% - Marketing Plan Management
- Assists with the implementation of marketing plans.
- Provides input on the development of marketing plans.
- Provides input related to defining key marketing metrics to track success.
5% - Account Reconciliation
- Assists in account reconciliation, as assigned.
- Assists with marketing budget oversight.
5% - Intern Program Direction
- Assists with building a team of student interns who attend and photograph all Seymour Center events.
- Directs work of the intern team.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Good organizational skills.
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of marketing principles, strategies, techniques and practices.
- Experience managing social media and websites.
- Experience with email marketing platforms.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience with photo editing software including but not limited to Photoshop, CANVA, etc.
- Basic Marine Science knowledge.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Basic knowledge of the campus and/or medical center, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT - Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to cover events.
