Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only statewide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose Of Job
Maryland Public Television is looking for a communications specialist to make meaningful contributions in the areas of publicity and media relations, internal communications, and institutional publications. This proven communications professional uses strong research and writing skills, organization, and attention to detail to plan, execute, and assess communications campaigns and activities across multiple platforms and audiences.
This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.
POSITION DUTIES
Research, write, and edit publicity and media relations materials including news releases, media advisories, and related resources.
Work with MPT staff and journalists to develop story ideas and generate media pitches, fulfill requests for information and materials, and facilitate interview opportunities.
Help build and maintain contact lists and activity logs.
Track, measure, and report results across department initiatives.
Research, write, and edit content for staff bulletins and other internal communications vehicles.
Assemble and organize information, write copy, and contribute basic graphic design to support development of institutional communications materials including reports, presentations, e-newsletters, fact sheets, infographics, etc.
Coordinate and oversee work of contractual vendors as needed to ensure assignment requirements are met.
Assist with the organization and execution of department responsibilities during special events and initiatives.
Support the department’s student internship program.
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
Note:
Candidates may substitute seven (7) years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field for the required education and experience.

Experience developing and executing publicity and media relations campaigns.
Advanced copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills.
Experience writing in different styles for specific audiences.
Experience applying Associated Press Stylebook rules.
Experience using email marketing software such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, GovDelivery, etc.
Experience with basic graphic design using software such as Photoshop, Canva, etc.
Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
Commitment to delivering quality work products and consistently meeting project deadlines.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
