USER EXPERIENCE DESIGNER (Remote/Hybrid Eligible)-(T200383)
To illustrate and communicate complex design solutions by creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high fidelity mockups, and detailed user interface (UI) and visual design specifications. To collaboratively help define and execute digital design needs based on the university's digital accessibility and brand standards as well as user experience (UX) best practices. To partner with our user research and analytics teams to understand the user journey qualitatively and quantitatively and ensure design deliverables reflect findings and data.
Duties and Responsibilities
Digital Design System Contribution - 40%
Contribute to the university's Digital Design System with accompanying detailed design specifications
Create designs and prototypes using Adobe XD and related programs to enhance the templates and modules within UAB's content management systems and digital platforms
Incorporate customer feedback, technical constraints, and usability research findings into design mockups and prototypes
Design for Front-End Implementation - 20%
Prepare designs for implementation by our front-end developers and work closely with them to test then give feedback and visual quality assurance
Collaboration with UX Research team - 20%
Assist UX Research team with user research and use data collected from a variety of metrics such as research, customer feedback, user testing, and market analysis to improve the user experience by creating user-centered designs
Storyboarding - 15%
Build storyboards to conceptualize designs to accurately convey project plans
Miscellaneous - 5%
Various related tasks and requirements
Annual Pay Range: $57,940 - $90,000
This job may be eligible for remote/hybrid work - the final decision is to be determined by the department/hiring manager.
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirements.
Expert knowledge in Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma, or similar program
Working knowledge in the Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and Illustrator
Experience optimizing web and mobile landing pages for conversions
Solid understanding of web design process
A strong understanding of UI, cross-browser compatibility, general web functions, and standards
Experience with common UX research techniques such as usability studies, card sorting, and tree testing
Ability to work independently on complex projects requiring frequent problem solving and critical thinking
A user-centric mindset and excellent attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, being able to work with diverse user groups from varied cultures, business stakeholders, and the product/development team
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in one of the following or other related fields: graphic design, web design, digital media, web development, information technology, computer science, or human-computer interaction
3+ years of experience in UX design and/or similar field
Continuing training in related areas including user experience, digital usability, digital accessibility, Internet technologies, web design, and development
Work Experience in Higher Education and/or the digital marketing and communications industry
