Pratt Institute's Communications and Marketing division seeks an Assistant Creative Director who will be a key member of the Creative Services team. The Assistant Creative Director, under the supervision of the Creative Director, collaborates with our writing, digital, marketing, and client services teams in the design and development of attractive, innovative, and user-centric solutions for integrated, multi-platform use across Pratt's web, digital, and print media. The Assistant Creative Director effectively co-manages the creative team in designing content that is both brand-appropriate and forward thinking.
This is a hybrid work position that occasionally requires purposeful, on-campus presence.
Typical work day would include the following responsibilities:
Co-lead the Creative Services team in implementing and iterating upon the Institute's overall design strategy, ensuring that materials for all departments adhere to the Pratt brand.
Manage the team of designers and consult with the Director of Creative Services and Video and Photo Production Manager when hiring external creative partners, vendors, freelancers and student employees.
Work closely with Sr Editor of Prattfolio, the institute's magazine to concept and produce each issue for print, digital and web platforms.
Collaborate with the digital, marketing, public relations, editorial, and client services teams to create and execute dynamic communications and marketing concepts for a range of internal clients including but not limited to Enrollment, Development, Academic centers and departments, Administrative offices, the Provost's office, and the President's office.
Work with the Client Services team and the Print and Digital Production Manager to ensure that all projects are produced on time, within budget, and quality control is maintained.
Interface with internal clients from beginning to end of a project: strategize, create, present, and execute design concepts. Clearly communicate creative ideas to supervisors, direct reports and clients.
Create print and digital materials for various stakeholders across the institute, including, but not limited to: posters, invitations, publications, exhibition and event materials, websites, email templates, social media campaigns, and motion graphics and video features.
Maintain a portfolio of clients, own project schedules and delivery procedures.
Mentor and manage junior design staff and student interns.
Work closely with Video and Photo Production Manager to provide art direction and concept development for select photo and video projects.
Work closely with Print and Digital Production Manager to prepare files and print specifications for vendors.
Work closely with Web and Digital Communications team to design websites and online experiences.
Salary Range: $88K - $96K + Generous Benefits
Qualifications: Education: Bachelor in Fine Arts in communication design, related field or equivalent experience is required. A Masters degree in design is a plus.
Experience: 10+ years designing for print, web and digital. Full-time employment experience with an agency, studio or in-house department is preferred.
Exceptional concept, design, and typography skills.
Exceptional communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, while ensuring quality and timeliness.
Works well collaboratively, as well as independently.
Understands the value of critique, and knows when to defend design concepts.
Familiar with Human Centered Design principles and has the empathic ability to understand the experiences, needs, and desires of intended audiences.
Expertise in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects. Familiarity with digital prototyping tools is a plus.
Experience with UX design for mobile/web/digital platforms.
Familiarity with higher education and/or art institutions is a plus.
