The American Statistical Association, a non-profit professional society founded in 1839 and located in Old Town Alexandria, has an immediate opening for a highly organized, personable staff member with excellent communication skills to support the Director of Membership Development & Marketing. The ASA is the world’s largest community of statisticians and supports excellence in the development, application, and dissemination of statistical science through meetings, publications, membership services, education, accreditation, and advocacy. Our members serve in industry, government, and academia in more than 90 countries, advancing research and promoting sound statistical practice to inform public policy and improve human welfare.
Major Responsibilities include:
Oversight of the online ASA Community, including implementation of new communities, creation of microsites, ongoing technical support, and strong working relationships with community stakeholders
Lead student membership support staff member, including oversight of the ASA Student Chapter program, assisting in the establishment of new Student run chapters. the ongoing success of established chapters, and planning and attending in person our annual meeting Student Mixer event.
Assistance with membership acquisition and retention efforts, including copy writing, email management, and promotional print products.
Creation and coordination of marketing campaigns and collateral with internal staff.
Planning and onsite support of our annual Joint Statistical Meetings, including student events and support of the Career Service and Exhibition Hall.
Service as an ASA representative at events.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
Qualified candidate must be capable of working independently and extensively with other departments of the ASA; be detail and deadline oriented and able to prioritize multiple tasks; possess excellent communication skills and have proficiency with common computer applications and familiarity with web marketing. Experience managing online communities or significant work experience in online peer-to-peer community building within an association position, or work-related social media expertise is highly desired. The position is primarily remote, with approximately 1 day a week in person. Some travel for in person conference support is required, at most twice a year. Strong, reliable internet and familiarity with digital platforms is necessary. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Preferred Experience: 1-3 years in a similar environment.
