Work collaboratively with the senior leadership team to develop implement a comprehensive communications strategy and manage a communications budget.
Develop compelling narratives about the work and the people behind the work to be used in presentations and materials, as well as train colleagues and partners in developing and delivering effective stories.
Lead the organization’s online presence, including writing content, managing, updating, and addressing technical issues, for the organization’s main website and other websites; as well as lead the redesign of the website.
Develop and implement the Cure Violence Global® social media strategy to increase the awareness of violence as a health issue and of Cure Violence. This will include creating messaging, posting messages, engaging in conversations, and partnering with others to increase the reach and effectiveness of the Cure Violence Global® messages
Lead all media relations for the organization, including managing incoming media inquiries, assisting local partners with media needs, and developing and pitching media on Cure Violence Global® developments through press releases, announcements, and relationship building with journalists.
Develop content for and oversee the production of educational and advocacy materials, including handouts, brochures, reports, and training materials to communicate and advocate for Cure Violence Global®.
Manage all visual content for the organization, including graphic design, photography, PowerPoint, and video.
Work closely with the Director of Development to support fundraising efforts, including creating communication materials for emails, websites, and social media posts.
Lead the organization’s crisis communications for issues that might arise with Cure Violence Global® or its partner sites.
Work with local partners to develop local capacity to spread the understanding of the Cure Violence Global® approach and of violence as a contagious problem.
Regular monitoring of media related to Cure Violence Global® and our network of partners to identify, news to promote or potential issues that need to be addressed.
Build relationships with other NGOs working in the health or violence prevention space to coordinate activities and partner on efforts to elevate the field of violence prevention.
Develop and implement a data collection system through digital monitoring application and surveying of local staff, partners, and others to identify and track efficacy of communications efforts.
Prepare talking points, presentations, and other supporting material for colleagues as needed.
Manage speaking engagements and presentations for CEO, building relationships with organizations and media issuing speaking invitations.
Ensure all communication outputs are of a high standard.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related discipline required; Master’s degree preferred.
Self-motivated, collaborative, confident and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in developing and implementing communications and marketing strategies.
Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communications technologies
Understanding of and experience with copywriting, graphic design, and publishing
Working knowledge of content management systems, HTML coding, and digital graphics production
Working knowledge of social media platforms (g., Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, and emerging social media platforms) and social media marketing
Experience with search engine marketing, Google Analytics, and Google AdWords
Knowledge of the range of issues affecting the communities and individuals that Cure Violence Global® works with.
Excellent writing and editing skills for a variety of formats, including website, email, newsletter, social media, blog, handouts, and more.
Excellent skills in storytelling, including structuring stories effectively, interviewing people affected by violence, and training others in storytelling.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with crisis communications experience preferred.
Knowledge of digital and social media methods for effective communication including management of multiple accounts, SEO, and other digital marketing platforms and tools.
Experience in developing and maintaining websites.
Excellent project management skills and proven ability to operate under tight deadlines.
Excellent communication skills and ability to confidently and effectively communicate and advocate for Cure Violence Global® to media and diverse community partners.
Video editing skills (Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, iMovie) a plus
