Reporting to the Associate Head of School, the Director of Extended Learning is responsible for developing and envisioning future auxiliary and summer programs that dynamically blend the traditional independent school model with innovative auxiliary and community partnership offerings, while generating net income for WIS. This role requires vision and leadership to develop and manage exceptional auxiliary and summer programs for Washington International School (WIS). Such programs include but are not limited to: after-school care; after-school co-curricular classes , a portion of which align to school-year curricular offerings at WIS; and summer learning opportunities, including camps. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Extended Learning will:

• Design, develop, lead, and manage high quality auxiliary and summer programs in keeping with WIS’s strategic goals, Mission, core values while maintaining the high expectations set for WIS during the day program. .
• Plan and coordinate marketing, public relations, and marketing initiatives for auxiliary and summer programs in collaboration with WIS’s marketing team.
• Coordinate and organize administration for all programs, including registrations, licensing, budget planning, supply orders, etc.
• Expertly manage programs to ensure safety and security for children, including establishing routines, policies, procedures, and guidance, in alignment with WIS’s policies.
• Effectively lead and manage direct reports who support auxiliary programs, ensuring appropriate allocation of resources, collaboration, and goal alignment. The DEL will serve as the final arbiter on quality control/quality assurance.
• Act as primary liaison to outsourced service providers, such as HR and accountancy services, overseeing all outsourced provision.
• Recruit, hire, train, onboard, manage, and support seasonal, part-time and temporary staff members for program delivery and administration. 
• Manage all unit financials: P&L, balance sheet, etc. and share with the Business office in a timely manner. 
• Review unit financial reports and meet with WIS business team members to share performance.
• Collaborate with WIS leadership on ensuring top-quality programs that create possibilities for reaching audiences beyond the immediate Washington, DC area.
• Approach auxiliary and summer programming with an entrepreneurial mindset, envisioning new program ideas, with an income generating lens.
• Provide WIS with any reports needed to support insight into WIS families’ use of co-curricular programs.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by WIS.

• Master’s degree or higher  preferred
• Demonstrated leadership experience with income-producing auxiliary programs, summer camps, and program development, including building and launching new programs
• Outstanding managerial competence to ensure the highest degree of quality control and assurance
• Clear business acumen
• Proven understanding of digital marketing
• Experience and comfort with a variety of technological platforms, including Google Suite and CampBrain
• Excellent listening, written, and oral communication skills
• Able to work evenings and weekends as necessary to support programming
