Position Summary
The Marketing and Communication Specialist will serve as a representative of the Center for Career Development (CCD). Under the guidance of senior management, works on the development and implementation of communication and marketing activities, enabling programs, services, events and/or products to meet organizational objectives. They ensure the effective creation, monitoring and maintaining the internal and external digital (including social media) and print presence for the CCD.
The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills and thrive in a busy environment developing marketing and communications content, and supporting large scale events.
This is a hybrid work environment; regular office hours M-F 8:30-5 p.m. with occasional evening and weekend hours.
The expected hiring range is between $50,000 and $54,000 annually, contingent upon qualifications and experience.

Essential Functions
- Develops the communication and brand strategy for the Center for Career Development
- Writes, designs, and coordinates the production of communication and marketing materials
- Recommends integrated marketing plans / programs and strategies to meet business objectives
- Guides event planning and execution as needed to support marketing objectives
- Assists in vendor management on specific projects
- Conducts market research and analysis used to inform decisions regarding strategic marketing direction, product segmentation and customer targeting
- Assesses market opportunities and track market trends
- Recommends marketing improvements based on finding
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Additional Functions
- Develops branded marketing campaigns for new and existing initiatives as needed, including comprehensive marketing plans, logos, tag lines, branded print collateral, promotional items, and original marketing copy
- Creates new graphic designs and style guides as needed; follows existing university brand and style standards when relevant
- Establishes and maintains relationships with internal and external university partners; Able to triage and respond to various communications requests at once; can generate content, coordinate with others as necessary to manage projects and complete requests in a timely manner
- Creates and distributes newsletters to various CCD constituencies
- Serves as the primary staff member responsible for establishing, developing, monitoring and maintaining Rice's social media presence.
- Compiles data, analyzes and reports on social media efforts
- Assists with CCD event support including logistics and vendor management
- Serves as backup for front office duties which includes: greeting students, alumni and recruiters, answering the phone, and directing questions to the appropriate person
- Answer questions via phone and email from students, recruiters and other constituencies
- Regularly maintains website content updates, including building and updating pages and implementing SEO updates
- May supervise intern(s)
- Develops metrics, reports, and tracking of marketing, communication and events programs
Preferences
- One year of related experience in marketing, communications, or related role, experience in developing and managing digital and print communication, experience in writing and editing web content
- Two years of related experience in graphic design development
- Professional demeanor, works well in teams, detail-oriented
- Deadline driven proficiency in writing quality content for paper and/or electronic marketing materials
- Demonstration of high integrity, enthusiasm, diplomacy, and tact, strong interpersonal, management, and organization skills, attention to detail, and compatibility with a team-oriented environment
- Possesses exceptional customer service skills with the ability to cultivate professional business partnerships,
- Employs advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of graphic design and marketing, using a range of media, methods, techniques, and equipment, including but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite 6, Canva and Photoshop
- Familiarity with Drupal, familiarity with Mac computers and iWork, familiarity with Rice culture
