Overview
The Assistant Director, Marketing and Communications will be responsible for strategizing and implementing the promotion of Campus Dining business groups, programming, and events through engaging marketing, design, and communications plans. This position will lead the marketing execution of programing and outreach strategies to promote the visibility of Campus Dining. This includes developing and overseeing print and digital communications that promote collaboration and customer engagement, while enhancing the mission and vision of the department and ensuring the cohesive and consistent visual identity of Campus Dining. This position will collaborate with Campus Dining team members from concept to completion of communication projects to ensure a consistent flow of internal/external communications. They will work with vendors and suppliers, as well as internal and external partners, to ensure that the programs and initiatives created by the Campus Dining team are supported and in turn support students, faculty, and staff in their overall Princeton experience.
BACKGROUND
Campus Dining is a dynamic and progressive department responsible for the food program management in residential dining halls, retail venues, and catering across campus. The residential dining program consists of seven residential colleges, the graduate school, and a kosher facility. Catering offers the campus community a broad range of services including high-profile receptions, full-service dinners, catering delivery service, and a Food Truck, which currently offers two separate menus. The retail dining program consists of ten cafes, a food gallery located in the Frist Campus Center, a convenience store, Prospect House (the Universityâ™s faculty and staff club), Palmer House (a nine-bedroom guest house), and athletic concessions.
Nutrition and sustainability are important initiatives of Campus Dining. Menus provide options for a healthy diet and promote well-balanced meals. Campus Dining also operates an Allergy Awareness Program to assist guests with special dietary needs. In addition, through Campus Diningâ™s Sustainability Initiative, thoughtful consideration is given to the broader context of social and environmental issues surrounding food production, distribution, and preparation.
The Campus Dining food program is culinary driven based on culinary principles of healthy and sustainable menus. The food program focuses on scientific research, innovative menu concepts, and food and ingredients. Menus are globally inspired and plant-centric which celebrate cultural diversity and discovery. Campus Diningâ™s Culinary Council and a team of food and beverage professionals develop unique, memorable experiences for our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors. Campus Diningâ™s vision for the future engages our campus community in activity-based learning.

Responsibilities
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing Communications:
Advise the Assistant Vice President of Campus Dining as a strategic business partner.
Drive the development of communication materials that enhance the work of Campus Dining locally and nationally.
Develop, direct, and oversee the marketing direction of program materials to ensure they are compliant with the visual branding guidelines of Princeton University and the established Campus Dining visual strategy and brand identity based on customer needs.
Oversee departmental marketing and communications to ensure consistent standards are met regarding University and department messaging and editorial style in print, electronic, and online collateral.
Conceptualize marketing for large-scale Campus Dining events. Define how we use digital communication tools such as social media, website, and digital displays to communicate, engage, and interact with customers.
Lead ongoing marketing and communications processes, initiatives, and projects.
Provide direction to the team on content development and maintenance of the website to ensure that all information is easily navigated, carries the identity, messages, and style of Campus Dining, and follows the Universityâ™s accessibility standards.
Create original storytelling ideas that meet the departmentâ™s mission.
Use, explore, and investigate various digital media to enhance and develop content.
Monitor internet trends and activities to develop guidelines to increase presence and improve design and usability.
Gather, record, and analyze status reports on website, social media, and various marketing program usage to provide quantitative and qualitative insights for effectiveness of our programing, communications, and engagement.
Conceptualize and design print collateral, electronic newsletters, web pages, and other communications materials.
Prepare copy for print, electronic, and online collateral materials.
Ensure that all information is clear and accurate with appropriate grammar and spelling.
Manage the entire production process and determine appropriate timelines/deadlines for all print projects.
Maintain a current inventory of promotional publications and materials.
Work with Print & Mail Services and outside vendors to obtain cost-effective quotes for Campus Dining communication projects.
Collaborate closely with other departments within University Services and the Office of Communications.
Stakeholder and Community Engagement:
Meet with Campus Dining leadership team members to direct and develop marketing and community engagement plans.
Develop strategies to improve participation in residential and retail dining and keep students enthusiastic with innovative and exciting programs and practices collaborating with dining team.
Support programing of retail, residential, health and wellness, and sustainability by coordinating marketing strategies and design that promote participation and create excitement around programs including campus staff and faculty.
Collaborate with Campus Dining team members for planning and development of large-scale department events.
Facilitate methods of feedback collection with use of technology, marketing collateral, data, and the Campus Dining Student Committee meetings.
Work with the University Communications team to respond to media-related queries.
Collect program information to develop article submissions for various media outlets.
Support the University CMS platform for Campus Dining.
Compose and develop written and graphical content.
Monitor internet trends and activities to develop guidelines to increase presence and improve design and usability.
Ability to think creatively and develop out-of-the-box marketing solutions.
Produce, develop, manage, and maintain digital media content and social media presence:
Maintain, edit, and update content on websites on a daily and weekly basis.
Collaborate and consult with Campus Dining business and functional groups to ensure that all websites are current, up-to-date, relevant, and accurate.
Create online forms and link to databases.
Responsible for taking photographs of Campus Dining events for webpages, social media, and special projects and maintaining an image library.
Film and edit video for webpages, social media, and special projects.
Create original storytelling ideas that meet the departmentâ™s mission.
Support and maintain Campus Dining content for Princeton Mobile and other university-supported mobile applications.
Use, explore, and investigate various digital media to enhance and develop content. Keep current on new technologies; recommend and implement new technologies.
Management and Administration:
Oversee recruitment and management of marketing team including one full-time team member, part-time or freelance members, and marketing students.
Collaborate and build relationships with campus partners as well as external vendors.
Represent Campus Dining on University issues and committee meetings concerning web development, social media, and other marketing and communications topics.
Other duties as assigned to include, but not limited to:
Attend trainings and workshops that provide professional development.
Maintain production equipment (computers, printers, large format printers, cameras); order and take inventory of all supplies ensuring that ink, paper, and other materials are always in stock.
Gather, record, and analyze status reports on website usage.
Create databases for special projects.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelorâ™s Degree required.
Minimum of 5 - 7 years of professional marketing and communications experience in higher education or related industries, retail marketing, communications, hospitality/hotel management and business development.
Proficiency and strong working knowledge of desktop publishing software such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator on PC and Mac platforms.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of a variety of print and electronic media production processes.
Self-starter with an eye for detail and design; creative thinking.
Ability to recognize when projects are needed, then manage, and determine appropriate design for projects.
Experience with graphic design, typography, technology, and digital standards that are essential to executing strong designs that deliver results.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills.
Excellent proofreading ability and copy-editing experience.
Ability to focus on detail, work under pressure, and receive constructive criticism.
Must be able to maintain a high level of quality output in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrates ability for teamwork and collaboration, and ability to work productively across a diverse group of people.
