WashU Medicine, one of Americaâ™s most prestigious academic medical institutions and biomedical research enterprises, is seeking applicants for the newly created role of Assistant Vice Chancellor, Marketing Strategy (AVC). This highly visible position will lead and grow our medicine marketing function to advance our core missions in education, research, and patient care.
In partnership with the Associate Vice Chancellor, Chief Brand and Marketing Officer (CMO), brand, creative, and business leadership, you help create the future of the WashU brand. We are at the forefront of creating a marketing and communications culture obsessed with smart, innovative, results-oriented work that builds the brand, grows the business, and attracts talent. You will be integral to its development.
As AVC, you are the key marketing strategist for the organization, providing executive-level counsel and collaboration working with senior leadership, marketing teams, and faculty to understand priorities, insights, and compelling stories. Key stakeholders include the Dean of the School of Medicine, Department Chairs, Division Chiefs, CEO of the Faculty Practice Plan, Vice Chancellor of University Marketing and Communications, as well as Vice Chancellors of Medical Education, Innovation, and Medical Advancement.
WashU School of Medicine is a global leader in academic medicine, clinical programs, and research - including biomedical research, patient care, and educational programs with more than 2,800 faculty and 10,494 employees. Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Leads and grows the medicine marketing function.
Provides executive-level counsel and collaboration as a marketing thought leader.
Partners with the CMO, Brand, Creative, and Business leadership to help create the future of the brand.
Works closely with internal departments and units, and external partners to grow the existing business, identify new and organic growth opportunities, and solve complex problems. Â
Develops strategic marketing and communications plans and programs for internal stakeholders across the institution.
Recruits, mentors, and motivates a high-performing team.
Functions as an accessible, inclusive, and relatable creative leader who clearly communicates expectations around the work and the working culture.
Advances the organizational goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a marketing discipline, Masterâ™s degree.
Experience in the healthcare sector.
Industry-respected marketing leader with ten plus years of experience crafting marketing and communications programs and campaigns that deliver meaningful business impact.
Strategic visionary with superior analytical skills, exceptional business acumen, maturity, and diplomacy.
Authentic curiosity about the interplay of communications, culture, technology, and engagement.
Positive thinker with the ability to see ambiguity as an opportunity and obstacles as a chance to build.
Breadth of experience across B2B and B2C marketing strategy and planning, brand strategy, customer segmentation, analytics and digital marketing, integrated campaign management, and CRM.
Ability to drive measurable customer and stakeholder engagement and growth in support of the organizationâ™s business strategy.Â
Demonstrated experience in conceiving, implementing, and evaluating strategic programs to achieve established goals.
Demonstrated experience building multi-disciplined marketing teams, and an atmosphere that fosters connection and collaboration. Adept at building and fostering cross-organization relationships.
Executive presence - sound judgment, aptitude for earning trust and developing meaningful relationships, and ability to influence decisions at the highest levels of the organization.
Excellent communicator and skilled presenter with a positive attitude and stellar listening, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Deep understanding of integrated marketing and experience design and can identify respective opportunities to bring these disciplines into your work.
Ability to lead, grow, mentor, and motivate a team.
Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Required Qualifications
Qualified candidates will possess a bachelorâ™s degree in a relevant discipline and at least ten years of experience or a combination of education and experience totaling fifteen years.
Advanced market research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Â

Salary Range
Base pay is commensurate with experience.The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
