EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Tenure track position
PRIMARY DUTY: Animal Physiologist to teach human physiology courses for biology majors and human physiology for health care professionals. Additional assignments may include medical terminology, introductory biology for majors or non-majors, senior seminar, and other courses suited to the applicant’s area of expertise. Backgrounds in neurobiology or cancer biology are especially desirable. (12-hour load per semester)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Teach an upper-level course in Human Physiology and its associated lab, intended for students completing a four-year Biomedical Sciences degree or related BS. 2. Teach a 200-level course in Human Physiology and associated labs, intended for students in Allied Health fields of study (e.g. pre-nursing, pre-dental hygiene, etc.). 3. Contribute to the departmental curriculum by offering other courses in areas such as introductory biology, medical terminology, animal anatomy and physiology, senior seminar, or other courses appropriate to the candidate’s background. 4. Cover a typical annual teaching load of 12 load hours per term (fall and spring). 5. Develop scholarly activity that involves undergraduate and/or master’s students. 6. Serve the Department and University on committees as assigned. 7. Provide additional student support in the form of academic advisement, mentorship, or other student assistance as appropriate. 8. Hold seven office hours/week. 9. Other duties as assigned by the Department.
REQUIREMENTS: Education: Ph.D. in biology or related scientific discipline. ABD candidates will be considered. Skills: Good classroom management and lecture skills
WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical university classroom, office, and laboratory conditions.
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Common classroom teaching equipment and laboratory instrumentation.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to complete essential functions in the classroom and laboratory.
