The Marketing & Communications team (M&C) leads marketing strategy for the School, and supports dozens of marketing or communications staff in other departments.
We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented professional who is passionate about email communication, campaign planning, and data-driven decision making in email marketing. This role blends strategic thinking and technical execution to create impactful email marketing inititatives that support HBS/s diverse academic programs, research newsletters, internal communications, and events. Reporting to the Director of Digital Marketing, the Email Marketing Manager will develop and implement strategic email campaigns for internal clients, offering expertise in email automation, data management, and platform optimization. This cross-functional role includes managing multiple email marketing platforms, providing strategic guidance, overseeing execution to drive engagement and meet organizational goals, and offering one-on-one technical support for email marketing tools.
This position will require a deep understanding of marketing technologies and email best practices. The ideal candidate will love working with people and solving problems.
Position Description
Responsibilities Include:
Strategic Planning & Campaign Management:
Partner with internal clients to design and implement email marketing strategies that align with HBS?s brand goals and audience needs.
This includes campaign planning, testing strategies, and providing recommendations to optimize reach and engagement.
Platform and Data Management:
Act as Salesforce Marketing Cloud administrator and go-to expert for additional email platforms, managing account settings, user permissions, and integrations with other systems.
Manage subscriber data, including building web forms and general list maintenance.
Template Development & Content Guidance:
Develop email templates that adhere to brand guidelines, email best practices, accessibility standards, and marketing regulations.
Assist internal clients with adapting their content to fit templates, optimizing for engagement and strategic outcomes.
Client Support & Training:
?????????????????????Train new users on email platform tools, including editing content, list management, and scheduling.
Offer ongoing support and troubleshooting, ensuring clients can effectively leverage email for their communication needs.
Performance Analysis & Reporting:
Provide ongoing reporting and derive actionable insights to improve key metrics such as deliverability, open rates, and click rates.
Present data-driven recommendations to enhance future email strategies. ·
Best Practices & Continuous Improvement:
???????Stay updated on email marketing trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes.
Collaborate with CRM and CMS teams to align on best practices and drive improvements in user experience and lead generation.
Technical Execution & Support:
Oversee email automations, workflows, and technology integrations, guiding IT in implementing solutions that support the strategic goals of the email marketing program.
This role is responsible for duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of experience in the email and digital marketing fields required.
Hands-on experience working with email marketing platforms (Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Pardot, Klaviyo, Acoustic, HubSpot, ActiveCampaign, or similar).
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Demonstrated successes in improving email marketing performance through strategic planning and data-driven insights.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and metrics to inform strategic decisions. · Excellent communication skills with a creative mindset focused on enhancing client experience.
Knowledge of email HTML strongly preferred.
Knowledge of Salesforce CRM and best practices in data privacy and compliance (GDPR, CAN-SPAM) preferred.
Bachelor?s degree preferred.
Strong project management skills and ability to balance priorities.
Ability to provide superior client service, while projecting positivity and confidence.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-service-oriented approach. · Exceptional attention to detail.
Experience working in a large marketing team or marketing agency is preferred.
Additional Information
This role is 40 hours per week and is overtime eligible.
This is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite 3 days per week and departments provide onsite coverage Monday ? Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.
