JOB SUMMARY: The scope of this position is to create and deliver compelling digital messages across multiple platforms that align with the College's communication strategies, convey key messages to broad and diverse audiences, and strengthen the Gustavus brand. The Digital Content Specialist should be a flexible, positive, creative person who will collaborate with the marketing and communication team to create and update digital content that advances the mission, vision, and brand of Gustavus Adolphus College. They will craft story-driven digital content for the web and social media that resonates with key audiences. The Digital Content Specialist will be expected to utilize user experience best practices and search engine optimization (SEO) techniques while delivering on marketing objectives and messaging priorities. The Digital Content Specialist will work closely with the marketing and communication team to develop long and short term goals to increase digital media reach and engagement. They will also manage analytic reports and maintain strategic audience performance metrics.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create engaging content for digital platforms (website, social media channels, other online tools) that is relevant, on brand, authentic and promote Gustavus to key markets and audiences.
Repackage existing non-digital content for use across digital platforms.
Maintain a consistent brand voice in all communications and postings.
Use analytics to evaluate digital strategies and create reports with recommendations to increase reach and engagement.
Support SEO and SEM initiatives through optimization of social media strategies to improve website traffic from social channels.
Hire, train, and mentor student employees to help generate content.
Stay up to date with trends in content strategy and development, user experience, and digital marketing.
Create an optimal posting schedule, considering web traffic and customer engagement metrics.
Manage day-to-day web content maintenance and ensure website changes are published in a timely fashion.
Prerequisites
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
2-3 years of experience in digital content marketing, digital media production, and website management, with a general understanding of search engine optimization and google analytics.
Experience using technology including but not limited to a content management system like WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, etc.) and social marketing tools.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in a related field.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute several projects simultaneously conforming to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Experience in higher education, non-profit, or for-profit social enterprise.
Work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team of diverse cultures, while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and frequently changing priorities.
Experience producing words and images quickly across a variety of digital mediums and tailoring approaches to each medium and its audiences/markets.
