About the Department:
Film and Video Studies offers courses leading to a BA in Film and Video with optional pathways in directing and producing, cinematography, editing, sound, and screenwriting. The department coordinates (and co-coordinates) a series of public film screenings and events, student showcases, and a Visiting Filmmakers Series while supporting a cohesive faculty and staff to carry out departmental objectives.
About the Position:
The Marketing and Events Coordinator oversees marketing for Film and Video Studies, manages logistics for program events, the Visiting Filmmakers Series, and student exhibitions, and supervises student workers at George Mason University. The ideal candidate will have experience in marketing and arts and/or film events management.
Responsibilities:
Student Exhibitions and Film Events
Organizes and coordinates exhibitions of student films and staged readings of screenplays, including casting and scheduling, event space logistics, and budgeting;
Coordinates technical support with faculty and staff for student film festivals, traveling Best of Film programs, etc.;
Markets and promotes the Film and Video Studies program (for recruitment, class enrollments, and publicity) and events (student film festival, student production fair, visiting artists events);
Maintains program websites and publishes monthly e-newsletters with achievements and events for the film community; and
Sends out a bi-weekly creative digest to students identifying regional and national resources and opportunities.
Visiting Filmmakers Series at George Mason University
Organizes and manages VFS events, including logistics of facilities, visiting artists, fundraising, media requests, communication, and technical support. Supports the coordination of artist contract payments, travel, and lodging.
Information, Resources, and Communications
Maintains informational resources for students and alumni as they relate to productions, exhibitions, jobs, and other academic and professional opportunities.
Supervises student workers
Recommends and budgets for the hiring of student employees to support work and advertise and hire for the position(s); and
Manages and oversees the work of student staff, including training and mentorship of student workers.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent;
Experience in marketing and arts and/or film events management;
Mid-level office administrative experience;
Understanding and experience with Adobe Creative Suite;
All typical skills necessary for operating in an office environment; and
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Mac OSX.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor?s degree in related field;
Staff management experience preferred;
Familiarity with Banner, 25Live, Drupal, Emma, Canva, Hootsuite, eVA, Mason Finance Gateway, Patriot Web and University policy and procedures a plus; and
Demonstrated experience working with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds.
