Position Summary
The newly established Rice Sustainability Institute builds on the strong research and curricular programs Rice scholars have developed in the past 40 years on the topics of sustainability, energy, climate and environment. Its mission is to develop energy and environmental solutions that are economically positive, socially viable, and globally relevant.
The communications and marketing lead will develop and implement RSI's communication and marketing strategy. This position will design and execute communication and marketing campaign solutions from concept to completion, across multiple channels: digital, print, web design and marketing deliverables. In particular, this role will assist in the creation and maintenance of websites and social media accounts for RSI and the programs and centers housed within the institute.
This is a hands-on position: the successful candidate must be able to perform tactical responsibilities and take part in strategic planning as well as collaborate with diverse teams and must be results oriented.
Hiring Salary $65,000-$72,000
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- 3 years of experience of related experience in communications, public relations, or another related field

Essential Functions
- Develops and manages the communication and brand strategy for RSI and its programs & centers incorporating appropriate channels (e.g., websites, social media platforms, digital newsletters. Etc.)
- Recommends, manages, and executes integrated marketing plans and strategies to meet RSI mission
- Assists in the creation and maintenance of websites / social media accounts for RSI and the programs / centers housed within the institute, including
- Creating web pages using Rice's supported technologies
- Performing website administration
- Interpreting website design and layout in a creative and fully integrated manner
- Guides event planning and execution as needed to support marketing objectives
- Manages vendors on specific projects
- Manages program budget, goals, and objectives in alignment with organizational goals
- Manages market research and analysis used to make informed decisions regarding strategic marketing direction, product segmentation and customer targeting
- Assesses market opportunities and tracks market trends
- Recommends marketing improvements based on findings
- Writes, designs, and coordinates the production of communication and marketing materials
- Ensures that all communications and branding are aligned with Rice Associated Press style by working with Public Affairs
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Preferences
- Bachelor's degree in communication, marketing, journalism or related field
- Experience managing social media and digital communication platforms
- Ability to conceptualize and write compelling copy for informational and promotional projects
- Demonstrated experience creating and / or maintaining websites with Drupal
