Reporting to the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (CCMO), the Director of Marketing leads the development and implementation of a cohesive marketing strategy that builds a connected, engaged, and empowered Columbia College community through relevant and effective marketing touchpoints and experiences. Through a cross-channel, user-centric set of strategies, the Director will lead a team of marketers in planning and implementing meaningful content and messaging that onboard, engage and convert alumni, students and other relevant constituents to become active participants in the community in increasingly loyal ways, building an inspired College community. This individual will manage strategies across web, email, social, and print, mapping out long-term priorities and developing results-oriented campaigns that optimize channel strategy, enhance user experience, leverage analytics and insights, and present relevant messaging and high impact branded creative assets. Grounded in industry best practices and the changing landscape of digital marketing, the Director will identify and support the integration of new technology as needed and will advance segmentation strategies, visual design and test and learn insights. In addition, the Director of Marketing serves as a leader on the Communications and Marketing team and works collaboratively with the CCMO and other leaders to meet the shared mission and deliver on the unit???s goals and objectives to build an engaged and connected Columbia College community.
The Director will work closely with College units such as alumni relations, student and family support and other key internal partners to understand business challenges and opportunities, developing marketing solutions that drive towards shared goals. The Director will closely collaborate with internal client partners and cross-campus communications teams to coordinate on content and editorial strategies and to ensure alignment with strategic goals of the institution.
Lead the team???s day-to-day development of marketing campaigns and strategies that promote programs and opportunities for engagement, working closely with partners to design results-driven tactics and plans that consider our diverse community and needs. Provide oversight and direction in the development of marketing assets (digital, email, print, media) that include high-end gala invitations, volunteer solicitations, newsletters, promotional items and more to educate, build pride and connect to strategic initiatives of Columbia College, and its constituents like the Columbia College Alumni Association and undergraduate student body. Together with the team, identify new technology and digital opportunities in order to continually innovate the user experience to increase growth and engagement metrics.
Lead the planning of a cohesive and integrated digital marketing strategy, creating goals and a plan for a seamless cross-channel experience that meets alumni and other constituents where they are in their relationship with Columbia College. This will include innovative approaches to digital engagement, content strategy (in partnership with the larger Communication and Marketing team) and oversight of video and other media that aid in engagement or activation.
Cultivate a high performing and collaborative team by setting a clear vision for marketing, along with well-defined priorities and workflow. Identify, create and implement process enhancements, strengthen collaboration with partners and clients and actively support and develop each team member, as appropriate. Create and promote a data-driven culture that values analytics and insights, ensuring that a strong culture of learning is established to enhance future initiatives and to report out to key partners and clients.
Serve as part of the leadership team for the Communications and Marketing team and work collaboratively with the CCMO and other leaders to help the team meet its overall goal and objectives in a manner consistent with the team???s mission. This is done in alignment with the values and mission of Columbia College and Dean???s Office.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
A minimum of six years of proven marketing experience, developing and implementing campaign strategies, directing creative development and analyzing marketing data.
Experience building and managing websites and other digital marketing tools, including CRM systems, such as Salesforce and Marketing Cloud.
Managerial/leadership experience with demonstrated ability to mentor individual team members and foster their development through hands-on coaching and training.
Proven track record in team building and creating opportunities for collaboration.
Excellent personal communications skills, verbal and written required.
Strong relationship builder, who can work across many lines and drive consensus.
Passionate about customer-oriented and 360 communications.
Detail-oriented and commitment to flawless execution in communications required.
