Are you a social media and communications maven? Gillen Brewer, a special education lower and middle school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan is seeking a full-time, onsite Assistant Director of Marketing and Outreach to promote and support our Enrollment/Admissions and Development departments in all aspects of communication including print, digital, and social media. Summary
The Assistant Director of Marketing and Outreach will partner closely with the Enrollment/Admissions and Development departments to identify and create opportunities of connection between GBS and its various audiences, both online and in-person. This candidate will also collaborate with the departments to ideate and execute strategic and innovative marketing and outreach campaigns to increase brand awareness throughout New York City and the wider special education community. The Assistant Director will create and/or assist in the creation of all communication materials and manage all social media platforms, ensuring all communications are streamlined, coordinated and on-brand. The Assistant Director will support and promote the school’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) practices within the program and throughout the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing
Create and maintain a detailed content calendar for all GBS communications, events, advertising and marketing projects (in-person and digital)
Create graphic design work, write copy and select photos for print and digital communications and marketing materials
Serve as the liaison between GBS and digital marketing consultant and other 3rd-party email marketing outlets to ensure advertising packages are secured and running on schedule throughout the year
Maintain dashboard reporting on the metrics of the marketing efforts and collaborate with the Enrollment department on analysis of the data, including checking data against Google Analytics and backend website data
Outreach/Communications
Draft (or assist in drafting) and deploy all internal and external school print and digital communications, including but not limited to newsletters and general school announcements, weekly What’s Brewing parent newsletter, enrollment emails, event invitations, annual impact report, community communications, annual appeals and other fundraising materials, etc.
Take photographs and video (when appropriate) at school and school functions
Monitor backend of Wordpress website and ensure that content is current
Actively manage and create content for all social media accounts
Other
Create, manage Zoom registration for, and act as host/run slides for all virtual admissions information sessions
Manage registration for small group admissions tours via Google Forms
Update and promote admissions events on the website and social media
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Position Requirements
A minimum of 2 years of work experience in marketing/communications (in education and/or non-profit environment a plus)
Demonstrated experience tracking and managing projects from start to finish and setting up organizational systems that allow for content and communications to be easily accessed and found from year to year
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Self starter, tech-savvy, detail-oriented, creative, collaborative, and willing to learn new skills when projects require
Experience managing and scheduling social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn), added bonus if familiar with Google Business Profile
Strong graphic design and computer skills (WordPress, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, InDesign, etc.)
Preferred - Experience with accessing Google Analytics and understanding backend data; experience utilizing AI in marketing
Physical Requirements
The work environment consists of exposure to physical conditions typical of an office and school. Employees must be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for long periods of time to complete necessary paperwork. Additionally, employees may also be required to perform activities which include but are not limited to: walking, standing, climbing up and down stairs, and lifting. Vision, with or without lenses, must be sufficient to read in both paper and digital formats. Employees must have the ability to hear, read, write, and speak in English.
Professional Development
The school is a community of learners. In addition to staff development and training at Gillen Brewer, employees are encouraged to pursue educational goals through conferences and various workshops. Staff is required to attend all staff development workshops as well as staff, team, and supervision meetings. Staff is also encouraged to attend all school functions listed on the school calendar.
Evaluation
The Director of Middle School and Enrollment will conduct two formal evaluations a year using this job description as a guide. Evidence of effectiveness will be collected through observations, surveys, discussions, and data.
Other Requirements
You must be authorized to work in the United States and be willing to undergo a number of clearances, including NYC DOE fingerprinting, a medical health form, and other background checks.
