NYU Metro Center is seeking a full-time Digital Director to design, lead, and manage an integrated digital strategy that builds power to protect and strengthen public education. This role oversees all digital programs—including content, mobilization, email, SMS, social media, and digital advertising—while managing systems, consultants, and contracts to ensure high-impact engagement and measurable results.
The Digital Director will also develop and implement scalable systems and digital infrastructure that support organizational work, empower coalition partners, engage grassroots supporters, and drive results.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Strategy & Leadership
Lead the digital team, setting priorities and aligning work with campaign goals
Design and execute comprehensive digital campaign strategies
Manage digital tools (Mobilize, Scale to Win, Hustle, Action Network, EveryAction, Buffer)
Establish performance metrics and lead analytics/reporting
Digital Infrastructure & Systems Management
Build and manage digital tech stack, including CRM integration
Ensure data integrity, segmentation, and compliance
Maintain supporter engagement pathways and data systems
Develop dashboards and performance tracking reports
Implement A/B testing strategies
Email & SMS Programs
Lead strategic direction for email and SMS campaigns
Develop campaigns to grow and engage supporter base
Manage vendor coordination and CRM integration
Ensure best practices in deliverability and segmentation
Train and oversee SMS outreach teams
Social Media & Content Management
Oversee cross-platform content strategy
Manage content calendars and scheduling tools
Supervise creation of digital assets (graphics, video, toolkits)
Build and maintain influencer relationships
Align digital storytelling with communications strategy
Digital Organizing & Mobilization
Design strategies to move online supporters to offline action
Manage platforms like Mobilize and Scale to Win
Support organizing efforts (events, phone banks, town halls)
Develop volunteer engagement pathways
Collaborate with partners on coordinated efforts
Advertising & Outreach
Develop and manage digital advertising strategies
Oversee ad budgets, vendors, and campaign performance
Manage targeting, approvals, and reporting
Optimize campaigns using audience data
Collaboration & Partner Support
Build relationships with digital partners and stakeholders
Create toolkits and campaign assets for partner use
Support joint campaigns and collaborative initiatives
Provide strategic guidance during key campaign moments
Data, Reporting & Evaluation
Lead data collection and performance analysis
Develop dashboards and reporting systems
Provide actionable insights and recommendations
Align digital metrics with organizational goals
Work Environment
The weekly scope of work will vary based on program priorities and collaboration with NYU Metro Center staff, partners, and consultants.
This role will be supervised by Megan Hester and will not have supervisory responsibilities.
Pay: In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,000-$95,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Bachelor?s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field
Minimum of 3?5 years of experience in digital marketing, digital strategy, or a related field
Minimum of 3?5 years of experience in a leadership role, managing teams and cross-functional projects
Strong familiarity with digital tools, including:
Analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics)
CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce)
Content management systems (e.g., WordPress)
Preferred Qualifications
Master?s degree (e.g., MBA or related field) preferred
